My wheels seemed to lock, the transmission goes into gear but there is significant resistance both forward and back.Neil - 2004 Kia Spectra - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 1/31/2012When I back up at one point and stepped on the brake they seemed to grab but then it ran fine. Afetr parking and trying to restart and move the vehicle the wheels seemed locked up.

1/5/2012 BillWhat do you mean it sounds like it doesn't want to turn over. It either turns over or doesn't. If doesn't give it a jump and see if it starts. If it does it is either your battery or alternator, although if it starts with a jump and keeps running suspect your battery bad.

1/2/2012 HouseCallAutoAt the moment that it is stuck in park, have someone tell you if your brake lights are working while you depress the brake pedal. If no brake lights, replace the brake light switch. If the brake lights are still working when the shifter is stuck, update the post and I will give you a circuit test to do to conclude the cause.

1/2/2012 HouseCallAutobrake light switch. The brake light switch circuit is what activates the shift interlock.

I have been on some web sites regarding the 4x4not working. My question is how do i access the info for TSB 007R ?justbob - 1998 Kia Sportage - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 12/28/2011Originally the kia came with vacuum locking front hubs, mine was changed to warn manual hubs before i bought it. But the 4x4 is not engaging. Help!!! Thanks-
12/28/2011 jdlIf the tsb is from nhtsa that won't work with my database. It seems that nhtsh is in their own world as far as tsb ID. I don't work much on 4x4. Maybe somebody else can help you?
12/30/2011 justbobthanks jdl. ultimately i am looking for a diagram for the front hub assembly before i tear into the front end to try to figure out why the 4x4 is not working. the previous owner removed the original vaccum hub and put on warn manual hubs, but its not working. this is my first 4x4 and i am proceeding cautiously so i dont get into deep!!

12/27/2011 jilbertif the axle doesnt come out becouse it has ring on hed of axle ( like pin) its whery easy remove the uder side axle you can see the ring for take out the axle you most heat the axle but .... from both side & strayet

12/15/2011 JimmYou can purchase either one - though the remanufactured transmission will be much less expensive - probably half as much if not less. The better remanufactured units will have better warranties - for example 3 years or more.
Check the more reputable transmission repair shops in your area - check with the AutoMD website for transmission repair and overhaul sources.
