What is the measurement of the muffler to get a clamp, and why does the engine light come on?
It makes load noises i think from under the car and it takes awhile to get up

If you want to possibly get through this yourself with help from us it will require you to have the fault codes checked that are stored in the engine control module. I could guess and tell you to try this or that but I don't like to guess. Not very productive. Buy an inexpensive code reader (under $75) and attach it to the diagnostic connector under the driver side dash and read the codes. It takes like 3 minutes. This is what the professional mechanics do in a repair shop for an event like you have. You just do not get to be a part of those behind the scenes details. Tell me in a repost what the codes are and I'll tell you what parts to buy to fix it without a repair shop intervention. Do not assume that if the engine service light is not on that there are no fault codes stored as many people think. The codes must be checked and if there are none, that also helps to know. Update me.

First your should determine first what the stored trouble code is, by using a scan tool.

2000 Kia sephia 1.8L Auto Here's my problem Trans.had a leak. It was a small rush hole in the pan. I fixed the hole while I was at it I changed the fluid and the filter. I took the car for a test d drive. After the test drive I got these error codes P0734 gear 4 ...

    • Spoon Sports
      4/13/2011 Spoon Sports
P0734 Means incorrect 4th gear ratio. (or tcc problem). (tcc means torque converter clutch) your car has a shifting problem. It is not shifting into overdrive, (or lock up) you can take it to a local mechanic, try having your transmission serviced. If that does not cure your problem, you may need a tcc solenoid replacement.

      So your codes are

      1. Tranny related
      2. Low voltage related

For the low voltage, kindly have your alternator checked they might have bad connections

it may cause of gear sensor error, that make system holding in between gear no 2 and 3.
solve it faster, otherwise it may cause others engine issue.

Are you saying that there was no issues with fault codes before you did this job? The P0560 is saying that the alternator may not be charging properly, have that checked.

    What is a failed VSS

    • Nissan Technical Advisor
VSS or vehicle speed sensor is a variable reluctance sensor which generate a signal indicating vehicle speed to the computer. And when it failed, you'll have the following sympstoms, hesitation, bucking, surging or improper shifting.
    • Spoon Sports
      4/17/2011 Spoon Sports
A VSS provides a signal that the cars ECU to calculate the vehicle's speed. This sensor works the same way a wheel speed sensor on an ABS-equipped car operates. A defective sensor may cause a variety of problems depending on the tasking of the sensor signal by the computer. These include speedometer, ABS, transmission, cruise control, and power steering problems.

You should diagnose your vehicle with a scan tool to verify what the stored trouble code is. The stored trouble code will help you find the fault of your vehicle's problem.
    • Spoon Sports
      4/13/2011 Spoon Sports
Hey Greg, as much as i would like to guess what the problem is, you will save more time and money if you get it scanned then post the code here.

FYI, these are the only things DIY-able when it comes to transmissions

      1. Change oil
      2. Change solenoids
      3. Switches
      4. Filter

I may have forgetten other DIYable stuff with the matic tranny but that is the gist of it.

Anything other than that, a pro will take care of it.

Do I need the band or the pliers when changing the clamp on the CVC joint?

    • HouseCallAuto
      4/5/2011 HouseCallAuto
There are two types of band retainers that I know of. They both require some sort of special tool to get the band tight. One crimps and the other pulls or rolls the band up until tight and then you bend the tab over onto itself.

I heard noises every time I step on the gas when I am on the free way(45-55 mph)?
My car has 150000 mileage. I haven't done anything to it yet. This problem happened only when I'm driving about 45mph and up. Once I released the gas pedal, that's when I heard this noise. I suggest that the noise came from the engine or transmission, I'm not sure. ...

      Possible causes:

The transmission's fluid level is low: Fill transmission fluid to proper level.
The fluid in your transmission is contaminated: Flush transmission fluid and replace transmission filter.
The shift linkage for your transmission needs to be adjusted: Adjust shift linkage.

You have an internal problem in the transmission: Overhaul transmission.

The transmission's oil cooler lines are vibrating against the frame or body of the car: Reroute cooler lines for proper clearance.
