Make sure the engine is cool and start up the jeep and spray carb. Cleaner on ths vaccum hoses if it revs up or dies down .... you found your leak .. carb cleaner is flammable so be careful keep away from exhaust

Take it to another reputable repair facility. I've known firestone to do some poor work.....not necessarily on firestone's part. Probably the technicians fault. I would either take it elsewhere or ask for their master technician to resolve all your problems since they keep breaking something else on your vehicle.

I hear a clunking noise when I start to move from a stop. Sound and feeling is from from drivers side. Axle?
Is it ok to drive easy with it?

    • AutoMD Member
      3/29/2014 AutoMD Member
if it only happens when you first start moving and does not happen again it could be engine or tranny mount gone out, if you hear a constant clunking noise while in motion then it would be the axle especially when you hit the brakes it should get louder

Forget that last question cause the axle let got with my mechanic!

When leaving a stop my liberty is randomly making a grinding noise like splines are rubbing .
it continues until i stop . checked the cv joints on the drive line and front wheel hubs and can find no damage . i am unable to tell if the noise is coming from the front end or the transfer case . pulled the front drive line and cannot seem to make it happen ...

Is it possible that you are hearing false abs activation? The same noise that you get when you apply the brakes when on ice?

What causes a thump- thump-thump in rear when vehicle is going down the road?
New rakes and rotors. Tires and wheels checked. when lifted off ground and in gear no noise. Thumping increases with increased speed.

Several possibilities; faulty / worn rear axle bearing, tire or wheel out-of-balance, tire worn or tread flat spot - or bubble / separated tread. May also be related to worn / faulty rear shock absorbers or worn / faulty suspension bushings. In addition, be sure to check the exhaust system mounting along the length of the vehicle.

Try this as the next step - rotate the rear tires - one at a time; left rear to left front - only - as example to see if the sound or problem moves with that wheel position. If no change, then perform the same swap / exchange for the opposite side tires and wheels. Be sure to make only the one tire position change at a time to isolate the issue.

If yes, then the issue must be with that one wheel or tire combination.

Why does my jeep keep going into third gear when I am driving????
I will be driving and all of a sudden my jeep will make a noise and kind of jump and switch into 3rd gear, when I try to put it back into drive it will do nothing. Also my jeep has stalled three times since this started happening.

Plug in a code reader and see what fault codes (if any) are stored. Checking for codes cannot be skipped.

I did that and no fault codes showed up.

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
      Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
      Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

      Dirty or worn spark plugs
      Bad plug wires
      Weak ignition coil
      Wet plug wires

I have a 1999 grand cherokee and when I drive it pulls to the right and feels like more power comes from driver side.
it is a rear wheel drive car but I don't know what's causing this pull it's only when I'm on the gas and when I lay off the car bounces left

Several possibilities; faulty / worn engine mount, worn transmission mount, worn rear suspension or spring bushings.

The parts are readily available from these many on-line sources, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.
In fact, they (RockAuto) list the engine mount from around $47.00 and the transmission mount from around $39.00 for your vehicle.

Herd a pop and wont go into drive, reverse, or neutral and makes a sound when put in park. is it worth fixing?
133xxx miles. I notices it a few days ago and thought it was a loose rotor but last night it got louder then I herd a pop and now it wont go into anything but park and when it does it makes a grinding sound for a few seconds then quits.

it sounds to me like you should check your clutch, if it is automatic you will need to get it rebuilt, if it is a manual you can fix it yourself, if you could find a shop to do it for cheap its worth it, if not getting a whole new transmission may turn out to be cheaper in the long run.

I installed a 3" lift kit, now i can not get my transfer case out of 4 wheel drive? How can i fix this problem?
I put my 3" lift kit on and when I put it into 4 wheel drive I could not get it back out of 4 wheel drive. So, here I am with a 3" lift kit and can't use my 4 wheel drive. Please tell me what to do?

Check with the manufacturer of the lift kit to see if the kit has affected the transfer case. Sometimes, simply adding a lift kit can change; suspesion geometry, steering, driveline angles for adverse reactions or results.

first step would be to check your linkage, are you experiencing driveline vibration?
