Is it my transmission or the gear/gearshift slipping?
When I first drive my car like in the morning or after school, it kind of jumps once I've put it drive. The rmpg thing goes all the way up to about 3 or 4 and I'm only going about 10 mph and then it's like the car jumps or something. Kind of feels like it's shifting ...

Robin, take your car to a transmission shop or your most trusted repair shop before it gets worse. It could be a simple fix like oil or a clogged filter. Don't put this off transmission work can get pricy fast.

I have a 1999 Isuzu rodeo. The wire that terminates at the top of the gear box on rear axle was broke. It was previously broken and repaired with three butt connectors as there are three wires within the housing. I did not notice anything when the wire was broken ...

This is a rear wheel speed sensor for the anti-lock brakes. It likely means that you have an abs light that is illuminated at all times. That means the abs is disabled because there is a fault in the system.

My 2002 Isuzu rodeo Automatic 2 wheel drive only engages the transmission when the winterize button is engaged.
The rodeo will engage in reverse. In order to put it in drive you have to engage the winterize button.

My car will not exceed 40 mph in drive and it makes a knocking noise below 2000 rpm.
150k miles, regular oil/maint visits. No event before problem started. Two repair shops, no fix, but new belts, hoses, water pump re: knocking noise. Automatic trans good in first and second gear, slow to engage above & does not exceed 40mph. Reverse is good. ...

So you said belts have been replaced, does that include the timing belt?I would check the knock sensor(if your model includes 1) because when it goes out,the engine makes a knocking noise and the sensor retards timing which would cause power lose making car stay under 40 mph.TPS sensor would also cause power to reduce because its telling the ecm that the throttle is only opened a lil bit.Or do you feel like it acts more like a tranny problem.Loose flywheel could cause knocking, but it wouldnt keep you from goin past 40

Yes timing belt was changed. Knocking noise continues and preceded the speed problem, I assume them to be separate issues since the car only recently has loss of speed and the knocking has existed for some time even after two visits to the mechanic and no fix. I don't know if the sensor was considered. Would a TPS sensor be better than a tranny problem, because that is what I will wish for.

Yes the tps would be a million times better. It mounts to the throttle body and tells the computer how far open the throttle blade is,then the computer adjusts the fuel and timing needed to match for proper operation.Wouldnt cause the knocking noise though.Knocking noises usually come from a worn main/rod bearing(if you remove spark plug wires one at a time to check, when you reach the cylinder with the bad bearing the knocking noise will quiet or disappear by pulling plug wires)piston wrist pin, loose flywheel bolts cause knocking at idle and upon rapid deceleration.Noises travel so much, its sometimes really difficult to pinpoint a area for observation.

Make sure you replace the timing belt tensioner cause it can also cause noise.Remove serpentine belt and spin, rock front to back left to right every pulley to make sure there arent any accessory bearings worn. Also a good idea to replace water pump if its the kind thats under timing cover. It also could be the timing off on the belt /sprocket setup because if its off by a tooth or two,itl cause youre not bein able to go over 40 mph issue

Thank you wbrockstar. When I am able to take it to another mechanic I will share your suggestions and comments. If and when I get a resolution I will post again, of course I am being optimistic that this time a mechanic will be able fix the problem without charging me and returning my car unresolved. $3000 to $6000 seems a lot to repair a 20 year old car.

Does a 2004 Rodeo LS automatic transmission 2wd fit on a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo LS 2wd?
I read some somewhere that the 98-04's are the same but the low mileage trans doesn't appear to be setup the same. Old trans has 2 pans and the new one has 1. Also the plugs and sensors look different, but I haven't taken mines down yet.
