Where is the water pump and how do u replace it
    none...leaks

The water pump is on the driver side area, you need to remove the driver side wheel to access it since it is on the lower part of the engine.

The thing is...if you will go through all the trouble of fixing your water pump, you might as well change your timing belt since they are connected.

Anyway, there are bolts on the waterpump that you need to remove, of course do this when the engine is cold otherwise hot water will pour out.

Oh, and change your gaskets as well.

Will worn fuel injectors cause low fuel mileage

Yes it can cause low fuel mileage since your fuel injector can’t perform efficiently.

My car died while in motion and wont start again.got any ideas?
I have replaced the distrubitor, and the main relay. I was told it may also be the oxygen sensor. IO can't afford to keep buying parts that don't fix the problem.

fuel pump, spray carb cleaner in the throttle body and try to start, if it starts and dies.......well then you have a fuel problem.

What do you mean that the battery light and oil light are on? Please explain. They are on when the engine is running or they were on when the engine stalled out while you were coasting to the side of the highway? I was about to tell you what is wrong with your car until you added that last sentence which I think is unrelated but I have to know.

My timing belt went while it was being driven
I understand that my enging is an interference engine. Does this mean that it is now trashed?

    • HouseCallAuto
      8/14/2010 HouseCallAuto
I would not say trashed, but there is a high probability that the valves are bent. The money difference being lets say $600 to replace the timing belt and water pump without bent valves and with bent valves lets say an add'l $1000 to remove the cylinder head, replace the valves and seals and reinstall. So about $1600 +- some. A test can confirm this that a mechanic can do. It is called a cylinder leakdown test.

Thank you. I'm really considering just changing out the whole engine. Depends on the costs.

If the car runs fine while driving and cuts off ONLY when you are idling (foot completely off the gas pedal and RPM's at idle speed) then your idle air control valve my need adjusting or need to be replaced, or idle air passage make have been blocked off by excessive carbon build-up. If build-up is the problem, a good removal and cleaning will do the trick or an off the shelf spray cleaner may get the job done as well.

Could also be clogged fuel injection system. Try a fuel treatment with a full tank of gas.if a older model GM front wheel drive it could be the lock-up solenoid on the transmission. or it could be a stopped up catalytic converter on about any make and model.
First thing id do is check and change the fuel filter, its usually checked by blowing air through it (in the arrow direction) if no air flows through or it blows through slowly then its more than likely plugged change it and go from there. sometimes after all avenues have been followed and the problem still exists i have seen the sock on the fuel pump be plugged and do the same. it will run great while accelerating but stall at idle due to not enough fuel pressure.

It could be a problem with the car not getting enough fuel, or it may have something to do with one or more of the sensors, such as the Mass Airflow Sensor. Is your check engine light on? If it is then its most likely a faulty or dirty sensor.

Please chect the EGR valve to see if it is stuck open with a chunk of carbon. This will cause an internal vacumn leak and the car will not idle. To test the EGR valve (Exhaust Gas recirculation) pull it off and try to blow thru it. Also look to see if the EGR pintle is seated. If the car you are having the problem with is a Chrysler then the plate that seals the EGR will likely be completely missing. The fuel filter will not cause this problem as the fuel demand at idle is very low. A clogged Catalytic Converter will also not cause this problem.

1991 honda accord engine gasket cracked after 214k service advisor suggested a rebuilt gasket due to lesser repair cost
cost to repair is about $2k? Seems high. Does anyone foresee other problems arising after the repair work is done. Has anyone encountered this type of problem and what was the final outcome? Is it time to let go of the Honda and look for a low cost used car? ...

If it is at the dealer the repair cost is normal to them, however this job can be done for 12 to 15 hundred at an independent shop. I assume that you mean the cylinder head is cracked. The gasket is under the cylinder head.

Your ac system oil capacity is around 5.00 ounces.

But if your replace your compressor I suggest that you put the old oil in a graduated cylinder to measure it, that’s if you don’t know exactly how much oil do you need to fill in your new compressor. Have you check it to your owner’s manual?

Check the condition of your fuel pump and its relay. Also check the condition (maybe clogged) of your fuel injector, fuel filter and air filter.
