540,000 kms Canadian climate. It happened once last year at -30 C. Recently, it was very cold again and the car ran ok but no heat and the gauge was going up to hot - it never gets that high, even in hot summers. One thing - I used the block heater on both ...

Why does is my car having trouble accelerating

Ok. the oil leak if it was from just the oil filter should not cause a running problem.

Check codes by jumping the two wires (Orange/Red and Green/White) in the 2-wire blue service check connector under the right side of the dash, near the right kick panel, and turn the key on and watch the check engine light on the dash flashing codes.

my car does not have this 2 wire service check connector cant find it anywhere... check engine light is not on and to check codes on this model car there is a lcd light on the ecu under passanger feet.. and its not blinking any codes... the car will accelerate if i let the clutch out at at 3000 rpm but still bogs up a little when shifting and has a decrease and loss of power at higher speeds ... any other advice on what this could be..? thanks

yes the car could have come through eithert way. Either it has the LED light ion the ECU or it has the check connector but no both.

So you are saying that immediately prior to losing oil from an oil leak determined to be at the oil filter, the car was running normal with no hint of the symptom you are new experiencing? Did the oil contaminate anything visually under the hood? Try unplugging the oxygen sensor connector and then see if power level improves.

Another possibility here is that the timing belt jumped a tooth or two. This would allow the engine to run but it would lack power severely. The belt alignment can be checked pretty easily.

how do i check it...do i check it with a timing light ?
      HouseCallAuto
      12/1/2013 HouseCallAuto
No, you need to remove the upper timing cover. Really hard to detail how to do this if you have no experience. Here is a picture of the timing alignment marks but that does not tell you how to do it. https://www.google.com/search

Why does the idle fluctuate when car is in park
the car has over 200,000 miles. the car was purchased recently and the idle sensor valve looks like its been recently changed. The idle fluctuates between 500 and 1500 rpm and sometimes the car surges forward at a stop. The check engine light is not on.

So you either have to replace the idle speed control or you may be very low on coolant.

I am towing my Honda accord with my motorhome. I am using magnetic tow lights and the run the battery down after 150
miles. Someone told me to run a separate wire from the plus side of the battery to the hot wire coming into the hitch connector and it will keep it charged? will this work? Or what are some suggestions. Thank You Mike

You should be powering the tow lights from the motor home.

I am, but I need to have the ignition switch on or the steering wheel will lock up in the tow vehicle.
This runs the battery down after a 150 miles. I have been told that I need to run a charge line from
the motorhome to the car. What is the best way to do this? Sorry for the confusion on the first question, my other computer keeps dropping out words and letters.
      Thank You
      Mike

If there is no ignition spark there when it will not start, then your fix would be to replace the distributor.

My car now sounds like I'm starting a race car.
My car has 170,000 miles on it. It usually has a quiet engine but last night it started sounding like it had a turbo motor or something. It was rainy and cold yesterday when it started. This morning when I started it I looked around because I thought for sure there ...

You have an exhaust system leak most likely at the front exhaust pipe.

Engine turns over but will not start.Acts like it has no spark or no fuel.
It stopped running while driving. Pulled over tried to. Start and it just turned over.I turned key all the way off, tried to start and it started right up.

When it stalls and will not restart, at that moment (not 5 minutes later) you have to check for spark. if there is no spark, install a new distributor ass'y. Probability here is greater than 90%.

Fuel mileage and performance have drastically decreased
I use to be able to get 400+ on a tank. Now I'm getting 335 max. No lights are on. I've run cleaner through it. Maintenance is been done. I have no idea what it could be. Engine is also sluggish at takeoff. Not hard on vehicle at all. Don't speed or brake quickly. ...

Confirm timing belt alignment is not off by one tooth because that would do it. Try cleaning the mass air flow sensor with aerosol cleaner. Check tire pressure.

Is the a specific cleaner you recommend? Can the teeth for the timing belt jump out on there own? Would any of this also cause the gas gauge to fluctuate?
    • HouseCallAuto
      11/20/2013 HouseCallAuto
Yes the timing belt could jump on its own. Buy Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner in an auto supply store. No the gas gauge is unaffected by this.

Immediately after my car starts I hear a loud sound from under the hood that reminds me of ripping thick card board.
Also, when I am parking I occasionally hear a ping from the wheel well area. Not unlike a large spoke being pulled.

At start up when warm rpm erratic.might stabilize or die If I put it in gear stabilizes right away.
only does this at start up when warm.Put it in gear problem goes away until next start up when engine is warmed up. No check engine light on.

Just because the check engine light is not illuminated does not mean that no codes are stored. It would be unproductive to begin guessing here without clear confirmation of what (if any) fault codes are stored. Update the post and confirm that you plugged in a code reader and read codes and provide any code numbers here first.
