4/14/2013 JimmSeveral possibilities; faulty / worn CV joint and halfshaft assembly, faulty / worn transmission. I'd inspect the CV joint and driveshaft as first step - especially since the problem seems related to the steering.
Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse.com or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the CV joint / halfshaft assembly from around $40.00 each side for your vehicle.

While driving my car makes a very bad whining noise. like a bearing going out. but no clue what bearing it isseventytwofordman - 1991 Geo Prizm - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 12/29/201296000 miles. checked wheel bearings both are good. also checked fluid and it is good. also only happens when i am driving. when it is just sitting at idle it doesn't make the noise.

When hot, Tracker won't go into Reverse. After cooling off, it does fine. 10/3/2012 bubseveybody keeps saying it's junk without even a look,I was told it may be the nuetral reverse sensor for which I',m going to a tranny shop today to find out thanks for your input clyde,I was also told without a look see that the bands were junk how can someone diagnose something without testing it ,thanks housecall guy but it still goes in drive great there's no clunking or any kind of noises -
10/3/2012 HouseCallAutoI'm fixing cars for 36 years. I have seen transmissions lose reverse function a hundred times. I have never ever seen anything but a new transmussion solve this no reverse. For your sake I hope your car is the exception. There is no electrical switch that controls reverse.

5/12/2012 jdlYou have to be sure the battery has a full charge and battery connections all clean and tight. Is this an automatic? Could be the neutral switch? Did you try cranking in neutral?
If you turn on the headlamps then turn key to crank, how do the headlamps react?
