Why do i have trouble shifting in and out of gears in my manual transmission?
problem occurs mainly in first and second gear and gets worse the longer i drive it. just tried replacing the tranny fluid with the very expensive dealer only fluid and problem still is occuring. what could be causing this?

Several possibilities; faulty clutch master or slave cylinders, faulty / worn transmission clutch friction disc or worn pressure plate, worn pilot bearing.
Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse, www.carpartswarehouse.com, or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the clutch kit from around $120.00 for your vehicle (includes the alignment tool).

I think you mean the transmission lines for the transmission cooler. It's possible that it just needs tightening a little, so try just a little turn on the union if it has a screw in union and if that doesn't do it ,then look further for the problem.

How to fix movement on stub shaft in transaxle

    • Jimm
      6/1/2013 Jimm
It depends on which direction is the movement or play. If the movement of the shaft is inside to outside - or outside to inside - (along the length or central axis of the shaft) to the transaxle - then the shaft assembly must be replaced. If the excess play or movement is in a radial direction (in a circle around the shaft bearing), then either the shaft assembly or the wheel bearings may need to be replaced.

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse, www.carpartswarehouse.com or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the replacement CV axle shaft asemblies from around $40.00 to $44.00 (each) for your vehicle.
Keep in mind the CV axle shaft assemblies are always replaced in pairs (one each side) due to mileage / wear / age considerations.

It could be a solenoid problem. Get a scan done at local auto store for free and see if there's a P-number which would solve the mystery. I had a Dodge Grand caravan once myself and when I had the trans. fluid changed at a trans. shop it came back sticking in low gear.I then had a rebuilt trans. installed.Your van is 13 yrs.It may need a trans.

Bad shock absorbers can cause wheel-hop but I can say if it applies to your situation.

What can make the transmission fluid blow back out of the fill tube.
It's blowing transmission fluid out of the fill tube after we drive it for a min like there is pressure build up.Its not leaking out anywere else just coming back out the fill tube.

      5/9/2013 Jimm
If you are blowing oil out the transmission dip stick / fill tube, then you need to check the transmission cooler in the radiator and make sure it is not stopped up. This usually happens if the transmission fluid is getting too hot, or the transmission fluid level is over filled.

Check engine light and SRS light came on at same and the reverse lights and speedometer don't work.
P0705 code. Transmission range sensor. Changed it but didn't help any. What else can it be as far as sensors I can replace?

Check fuse # 3 which is a 7.5 amp fuse that is a multi-purpose fuse. It supplies battery voltage for the reverse lights and the SRS module. Fuse #2 (also 7.5 amp) supplies battery voltage for the speedometer. Both these fuses have to be checked to confirm that not only is the fuse good, but that the fuses have battery voltage on both sides of the fuse. Update the post when you know.

1st gear-no problem. All other gears, the engine will rev, but the truck hesitates like i should be in a lower gear.
This is especially noticed when I need torque, like going up a hill. The engine revs, but it's not translating over to the transmission. It feels like the trans has to slowly catch up to the engine. Shifting is smooth and clutch pedal seems normal.

It sounds as if it's either losing engine power or the clutch is slipping. But you say it pulls fine in first gear?

Maybe it's an intermittent gas delivery problem or electrical misfire. If the gas tank is low when going uphill the pump won't get any gas.Just food for thought.

I'm thinking more along the clutch/trans part. It does it on a full tank as well. When u step on the gas, the engine will rev up and then slowly the truck seems like it's catching up. It's like I'm in a gear or two higher than I should be...but I'm not. There's no grinding/banging. The clutch is not loose pedal is not loose and engages as soon as I step on it. It may be time for the shop. Thanks for your thoughts!
