First step, check and refill the fluid level if the level is low. Does the transmission have a history of preventive maintenance, such regular fluid and filter changes? if yes, when was the last service performed? If more than 36k miles, the next step might be to change the fluid and filter - often a clogged filter can cause shift problems. Do not have the transmission 'flush' service performed - this is useless, a waste of money - and will not provide you with a new transmission filter.
If this does not cure the issue, then have reputable transmission repair shop diagnose the problem - be sure they (the repair shop) does not automatically state the transmission needs a rebuild without first conducting a thorough diagnosis - often repair shops can be misleading by this tactic.

Ok your details seem clear at first, but yet I stll don't know exactly what you mean. Are you saying that you are not able to place the shifter into other positions besides reverse. I assume this truck has an automatic trans, not a manual? Or you are saying that you can place the shifter into other gear positions but the truck does not move in those positions?

Why won't my wheels move. I'm not sure if it's the back or front
Car has 107000 miles. Went to back out of parking space and felt like I hit something. When I pulled back in, it felt like the back wheel wasn't moving.

My van was hit on the passenger rear tire. The leaf springs moved and the tire looks closer to the rear .
The wheel is not centered on the wheel well. Can I drive it that way without damaging the differential or drive shaft?

I would get underneath and look at where the drive shaft goes into the transmission. There's a good chance that the shaft is partially pulled out.I feel that it coud put stress on the transmission. It should be realign soon. Looking at the illustration in a Haynes repair manual it does'nt seem to be very difficult to put back in place.I suggest you buy a manual and check it out for yourself. Hope I helped.

Yes Frankie is right about the driveshaft, but also, the rear tires are going to wear down RAPIDLY because the toes is now off a lot and until someone looks at the damage to determine exactly what moved out of place to allow the rear to move off center. The cause might just be that the centering bolt that locates the spring to the rear (kind of like a keyway of sorts) has been broken off. Do not drive this on wet or icy roads or there will be poor stability control with the rear shifted like that.

      1) Lift up on the wheel hub assembly and push it to the right while pulling the axle out of the hub assembly.

      2) Pry the other end of the axle out of the transmission with a small flat-tip screwdriver.

      3) Put some hard grease onto the snap ring of the new axle shaft. Insert the axle into the transmission and push it in until it snaps into place. The rest of the installation is the reverse of removal.

When I take my foot off the gas it howls as it slows down. The faster I was going the louder the noise. WhY?
My air conditioning unit does not run cold air anymore and their is plenty of freon. What could be the problem?

There are different reasons as to why it would stop cooling the air anymore. One, It could be that your air conditioner has been contaminated by moisture or debris. Two: growth of fungi, bacteria and microorganisms when the air conditioning is not in use especially on winters. Three, the seals could have dried out when not in use hence causing deterioration of the unit. Four, the condenser could be blocked due to grime, dirt or debris hence constricting air flow and preventing cooling. Lastly, the compressor clutch could be defective, malfunction of the compressor, valves not working or pressure switches could be defunct hence no cooling.

I cannot say positively that I know what the spicific cause is , but,I used to own a dodge caravan and after having the trans. fluid changed at a shop it started sticking in low gear. I eventually had a reconditioned trans. installed. Years later I learned about the B.G.flush at the dealership and I've been doing that every two years since .If damage is not already done a BG flush can make a BIG difference. Hope that helps.

Did you put in ATF+4 ? If you put in regular Dexron instead, that could make things bad but not a loss of gears. I have a feeling there is more to your story though. For instance, what was the tranny doing that made you change out the fluid to begin with? If the tranny had some bad symptoms before the fluid change, and then you change the fluid, things can get worse just by changing fluid. I think the tranny is done though. As Frankie said, if you put in the wrong fluid I have seen the tranny get stuck in low gear. When you have no gears, that is bad and I have never seen anything but a new tranny solve that.

My transmission shifts into drive but won't move anywhere? Could it be the solenoid or something internal?
Check Engine light came on the other day and said it was the Torque Converter Clutch and then started to shift oddly the past few days

If the damage is not already done a B. G. flush at a DODGE dealership can make a huge difference to a transmission.I also have a RAM 2500 and i had a B.G. done twice already .Im sure that if i did not have one done that my trans. would be replaced years ago. This is my second dodge and i had to replace the trans. on the grand caravan.Did not know about the B.G. then.

Check the transmission tag ID; possibly any of these part numbers: 5095254, 5102932AE, PK4800931, R4800931AA; with the engine VIN G (3.3L) it is most likey the four speed automatic with trans code 41TE.

4wd light on and not allowing to go in 4wd
I have a 2005 Dakota that the 4wd was kicking in and out, jerking. Took it to a garage found out it was driveshaft and supposedly the switch inside that you turn the 4wd on with. Got it fixed. On the way home, light came on. Not making any noises or jerking but ...
