    My car's engine is knocking sporadically and the oil pressure gauge is low
    the car was running fine, then it wouldn't start without knocking. After adding 2 quarts of oil, the knocking stopped for twenty minutes. Now the car won't stay started and it's knocking again.

      When you added the 2 quarts of oil, how low was the oil reading on the dipstick? Did the 2 quarts bring it up the the full mark exactly. Did the engine overheat to your knowledge?

    What is this part called top mounts to plenum has 2 bolts and a gasket and is L shaped bottom has 2 bolts and a gasket A
    Bottom looks like it mounts to exhaust .It is a L shaped metal tube on the back side of the plenum and firewall egr valve is near it.

    The alternator light is on and it is discharging but the alternator tests ok
    A rebuilt alternator was installed 11 mos ago. Two days ago the light came on and continually discharges. Also this car has a 318 engine.

      Confirm that there is battery voltage at the heavy wire connection at the rear of the alternator. If no power there then you have a burnt fuse link located off of the positive battery terminal in the harness nearby. You will see a few .

    Can the alternator be removed from the passenger side with car on jack and front passenger tire removed
    Battery is good and alternator not charging battery

      No You have to remove the intake manifold plenum. Its not a hard as you would think.

    I had my oil change 2 week ago it was 2 quart low 2week later it 2 quart low again
    mileage 52900mi is this normal and their is no oil on drive way where car is park check engine lite is on code motor image

      Need to plug in a code reader and see what fault codes are stored is first step. Confirm that when you look at the bottom of engine you do not see any oil droplets hanging. I know u said driveway is clear but that is not a confirmation of no external oil leak. Other possibility is oil was under-filled maybe? Did you check oil level yourself after oil change done?

    How many issues can a "misfire in cylinder 2" be responsible for? I've changed plugs, wires, coil pack already
    The engine loses power when the a/c runs at idle. A/c stopped working all of a sudden and transmission fluid leaks

      Is the engine running like it has one dead cylinder? Do a compression test. Swap fuel injector with a different cylinder and if the fault code changes to different cyl then you know the injector is bad or just replace #2 injector. It may not solve it.

    Oil leak coming from the timing belt cover was told cover has a crack on the bottom can that cause the leak
    Previous owner replaced water pump and timing belt bottom of cover is cracked looks like it was tightened to much

      When timing belt cover is mounted is it sealed where oil cannot leak out.And also when engine is running is oil suppose to circulate on timing belt and other moving parts.Just want to make sure my mechanic is being honest with me.Thanks for any info.

      Yes the area around the moving timing belt has to be free from oil contamination and the timing cover would seal out oil leakage. Ask the mechanic to see the crack in the timing cover.

      The white smoke is not a good sign; more than likely - the cylinder head gasket has a leak due to the overheating.
      As the first step; perform a cooling system / radiator pressure test when the engine is cold - to locate the leak.
      Obtain a loaner tool / free radiator pressure tester from the local auto parts stores such as Autozone, O'Reilly, NAPA, Advance Auto, or PepBoys. Follow their instructions and pump it to an adequate air pressure 12 -15 psi or the pressure rating listed on the radiator or reservoir cap. Observe the leaks and perform the repair.
      Note: do not over pressurize beyond the pressure allowed by the radiator cap, then test the radiator cap as well.

    Why did my car take time to crank up slowly with vibration while starting?
    I was trying to restart the engine after a 15 min stop after running it for an hour. It did not respond initially, and then when I kept pressing on the gas pedal, it cranked up slowly with vibration. Once it got started, it was running normal

    Plenum gasket replacement
    Inoperative PCV valve (am told) has caused failure of the valve cover gaskets and the "plenum gasket". In order to stop oil leak(currently 1 qt./1000 miles) all 3 items must be replaced together (valve replaced alone is no help). True or false? And what search term ...

      Its hard to say what has happened here. You have a asked a question that will not be able to be answered without a qualified mechanic looking at the car. Mybe the timing belt broke and that is the "whine" you now hear when trying to start it. I hope that is not what happened because it causes other damage at the same time.

    Check engine light comes on after about 400km [about a week of driving] after being turned off
    mileage- just over 50000km,no noticable symptoms, engine light comes on when engine is warm, after I turn the light off it stays off for about a week of driving. The code is P2098 post catalyst fuel trim too lean bank 2.
