Has a greater than 75% probability of a bad encoder motor on the outside of the transfer case.

It probably is your transfer case control module and it is located under the passenger side kick panel. If you disconnect it and clean the pins of any oxidation it should start working. does your 4x4 light just blink then go off? I had the same problem and bought a new module and it did the trick. junk yard about $40.00 bucks hope this helps.

Your transmission is electronically controlled. It takes readings from the Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS) to controll shifting and the Engine Control Module(ECM) uses the VSS readings to calculate engine load. The VSS also affects the speedometer. You likely have a problem with the VSS. This sensor usually sets a trouble code and triggers the check engine light. Is your check engine light on. You should have the vehicle scanned for diagnostic codes. Autozone will scan it for free.

How much does it cost to do a tranny flush on a Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
I just change the tranny fluid and filter and now when I shift to R or D it makes a clunking noise, it wasn't like that before?

I don't see how the fluid and filter change would cause this. The tranny fluid change would cost about $150 to $175

Can over filling the tranny fluid cause it to make a clunking noise when shifting into R or D?

Unknown, make sure it is filled proper. If you mean a quart overfilled no that cannot do anything. 4 or 5 quarts I have no idea, never experienced that.

The 4WD system is no different than diagnosing the engine with fault codes. You need an appropriate code reader that can access the transfer case codes. These are C codes as opposed to P codes that the engine diagnostics gives. I believe that there are no inexpensive scanners that are sold to access these codes, only the expensive snapon and OTC Genisys scanners. However, you could buy a functioning OTC Genisys that will access your Chevy transfer case codes on ebay for under $500 if you were feeling a long term relationship with your vehicle. Nobody skips reading codes and just begins testing components because the testing procedures are all based upon action taken after knowing what code is there. Without a scan tool that can read codes and live data you are certain to replace unnecessary parts. It is possible that someone that works on these all the time might just know the probable cause based upon your description, not sure. I work with codes and then go to the procedure charts with the code present.

A carrier bearing is the bearing that is inside the rear axle housing on each side of the differential carrier. If you mean the "center support bearing" on the driveshaft, that has to be pressed off and on.

It does seem like you are describing brakes that are dragging like as in a bad caliper or brake hose. The strategy here to determine or rule out dragging brakes is to jack up each front wheel as soon as you can do it after feeling these symptoms. You may find that one of the wheels does not want to turn by hand. Another way is to use an infrared thermometer (harbor freight (under $20) and measure the brake rotor temperature from left to right. (a dragging brake will have excessive temperature and will not be even close to the other wheel temperature. And a temp check can be done withing a minute of pulling over while problem still exists (does not have time to cool down)
