Call the local GM dealer and tell them your IPC (Instrument panel Cluster) is no good. Ask them if they can "goodwill" the replacement. There is definitely a campaign going on (not a recall) where GM is fixing lots of these at a very reduced cost like $200 +- because they are dropping like flies and GM knows there is a overwhelming problem with them. They may lie to you flat out and say that they did not hear of this problem alot. What would you expect them to say? Maybe a personal appearance rather than a phone call would carry more weight, but I would bring several coffees and couple dozen donuts to the SERVICE MANAGER, bribes go a long way.

You might put excessive pressure to the shift lever while trying to shift it that why it is now broken and this may cause you an internal problem. Have your vehicle towed to a nearest shop to inspect and replace the lever. Worst is that you will need a new transmission.

Why is my speedometer not working?
The speedometer cable coming from the transmission is brand new. I think the cable connection into the transmission is worn out and won't turn the cable which feeds the box under my hood which spins another cable leading into the dash.

that could be it it is either stripped in the transmission and not getting spun or it is the spedomoeter and that could be stripped inside where the cable spins.

Shifter wouldn't gage. Got that fixed, but now the key won't come out. how do I fix this problem?
The shifter woudn't come out of park. Took shifter off & awire had come loose. We put the wire back in place. It shifts now but the key wouldn't come out of the ignition.

on the driver's side of the shifter toward the front there should be a small cable. correct adjustment allows the switch to which it connects know the car is in park so the key can be turned to the locked position. it's kind of a pain to adjust.

Going thru rear seals on axle
2 sets chinese bearing and 1 usa bearing. chinese bearings last a couple of weeks. USA bearings have been in 2 months and making noise again. Noise only when driving and first noticed this morning.

if you are going through bearinggs and seals lie this then something bigger is the problem. it could be that that where the bearing sits is too loose, or that the axle shaft is slightly bent and causing the problem. is this the rear or the front you are having a problem with? I assumed you are talking about rear but want to make sure
      10/25/2010 Bobby
Sorry saw again on title it says rear. so the axle shaft could be problem. was this truck ever in an accident that affected the rear, or did it ever hit something hard to that side?

Something is wrong with the axle shaft surface that makes contact with the bearing rollers (this is likely). Sometimes the axles are too pock marked at that position and are worn and cause the bearings to fail. It has a cause, it is not the bearing being a defect, Chinese or not. I'll assume that the differential housing has been filled with gear oil to the proper level through the fill plug.

The trans works good, but has a high pitch squeal that changes with rpm increase
The squeal starts after the trans is warm and is in all drive ranges even neutral and park.

Are you sure it's the transmission and not the belts or pulleys? Sounds like a loose slipping belt or a worn bearing on one of the pulleys to me.

I have recently noticed a growl which seems to come from rear end or rear wheel bearings
Truck has 138000 miles. Noise intensifies with speed and has no relation to gear changes. Noise only appears when moving, no unusual sound when stopped.

sounds like you have the right idea, it could be the bearings, if you are noticing a growling from the rear tire area, take off the rear drums make sure it isn't the rear brake shoes, it could be if they haven't been replaced in a long time. and I hope it is cause a growling bearing can lead to extra damage if not taken care of. Don't keep letting it go check it out sooner than later
