Possibly that the nuetral safety switch is not disengaging when in the case it doesn't shift to gears. Replacement may rectify this fault. If the vehicle starts in gears; you may have a shift linkage problem.

Your transmission oil may be low and you experiencing transmission overheating. Transmission oil could be contaminated or the oil vents are clogged. I recommend checking the condition of your transmission fluid and its level; change the oil and the filter if necessary and check also TPS (throttle position sensor) may be failing.

Did you already check the condition of your U-joint (may be worn/loose/defective), driveshaft (maybe loose/bent/unbalanced), differential drive pinion (may be worn/broken pinion teeth), rear wheel bearing (may be worn/dry/damaged) and yolk shaft (may be worn/damaged)?

Diagnose your vehicle with a scan tool to determine if there is a stored trouble code (if one of your electrical controls or sensor is at fault it will show in you trouble code). Even if your check engine light is off don’t assume that there’s no trouble code in your vehicle.

What can I do about transmission getting to hot 200 plus degrees.
transmission temperature gets extremely hot. I recieve a message on dash "transmission hoy" gets up to 200 plus degrees. I was told by a mechanic that it could possibly be the torque cionverter slipping. Engine temp normally runs between 196 to 210 degrees.

The only time i will replace my TQ is when i put it to "D" my vehicle still not moves. If it does and it still gets hot, i will check the oil level first.

So tell me, how is your tranny oil level?

What makes transmission high temperture light come on
transmission strains also builds up speed slowly rpm builds high before gear change

    • Nissan Technical Advisor
It is possible that your transmission is overheated and you may notice a smell from the transmission after you have driven it for awhile. You may also notice some slippage or delayed shifts while driving it. When you check the fluid level of the transmission, the fluid smells burnt. These are because of; your fluid level is low or the transmission's oil vents are clogged with dirt or undercoating; your transmission cooler is bad or (if equipped) the thermostat in your transmission is bad; the wrong type of fluid was put in your transmission, or the fluid is contaminated; in worst case, there's an internal problem in the transmission. Have your car checked professionally.

Trans will only function in 2rd and reverse
transmission will only operate in second gear or reverse. Transmission has been rebuilt and placed back in vehicle. still will not operate reght. suspect an electrical problem, what do you think.

    • Nissan Technical Advisor
It could be the gear shift linkage is binding and the fluid is low. Also the throttle cable to the transmission is broken or disconnected. It is also possible that the vacuum modulator on the transmission is faulty, or the vacuum line is disconnected. Worst case, it’s an internal damage.

P0756. Why the car hesitates when i step on gas, check engine is on.
Lost the power and went back to 2nd gear with a maximum speed 25 miles/hour.Clear the code, the car back to normal, then it's cycled again. P0756 called for transmission solenoid B, it's been changed, the engine control computer tested good with a shop equipment.

Google it and found the answer.
GM has issued a TSB # 01-07-30-036C to cover all 2001-05 passenger cars and light duty trucks equipped with the 4L60-E or 4L65-E transmission. If the vehicle shows trouble code P0756, it’s a sign of a mechanical failure, not a problem an electrical connector. GM says that a small orifice on the top of the spacer plate can get clogged with debris and cause this trouble code. The repair involves removing the valve body spacer plate and inspecting orifice #29. The code can also be caused by a cracked, broken, or leaking 2-3 shift solenoid. A stuck or hung-up 2-3 shift valve could also bring up this code. If the vehicle is still in warranty, it will be covered. Otherwise, you will have to discuss the cost of repair with your dealer to see if GM is willing to pay for it as a goodwill gesture.
The mechanics who asked that questions, will start to work on that issues.

It could be your U-joint is out of grease or worn. Check under chassis to verify this. Also include in check up for loose exhaust hangers and wheel lug nuts.
