In cold weather, my transmission seems to slip unless the car is warmed up first.
car has 135,000 miles on it. Problem only occures during colder and winter months. During spring and summer there is no problem. After it warms up, everything seems to be fine. accept for occassional slipage in turns. Check engine light is on.

You need to buy an axle shaft, an axle bearing, 2 axle seals (because you will want to replace both axle seals because the same amount of labor time will be needed to unlock the rear axle shafts by removing the differential cover to access the two U clips that release the axles. So you will replace the axle seal only on the other side since you only have a problem with the one side (you diagnosed that already and I assume that you know it is just the one side shaft and bearing that you need). You will also need a tube of Ultra Grey silicone for the rear cover (no gasket needed) and you will need two quarts of 80W90 GL-5 gear oil as it holds 3.9 pints.

    Stick shift sticks in second
Don't know service history if any. I can release gear by tapping top linkage back. Old farm truck, but runs great otherwise.

Did you check the condition of your transmission fluid, maybe low or contaminated? Add oil or change the filter if necessary and observe if this resolve the problem. If not, post a query again with more details, such as if there's noise, vibrations and to when this issue happens.

Ahhh its just a back up switch, a cheap part. It's on the side of the tranny. There should be two 2 wire connections on the side. One is your neutral safety switch and the other is the reverse light switch. They either screw out or the have a bolt and fork holding them in.disconnect one of them and try to start it in gear. If it will start then the other one is the reverse light switch.

Crossmember Broke at weld to frame, Can this be repaired?
My 2001 Silverado recently had its drive shaft bearing at the cross member go, and along with breaking the front yolk of the drive shaft, broke the cross member at the weld to the frame. I was told at the service station that these cross members are usually bolted ...

Can't tell without seeing it. You should probably take it to a frame shop and buy a new crossmember if its available.

I guess i was more so asking if welding these frames in recommended at all. If someone knew anything about having a cross member welded back on one of these trucks. Have heard that is is not a good repair to perform due to compromising the structure of the frame.
