You need to replace the instrument cluster. There are several places online that you can send the cluter to be repaired and they send it back good as new.

The instrument cluster needs to be replaced or rebuilt. The parts are readily available; try these on-line sources; www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.

There are instrument cluster rebuilders that can rebuild / exchange your old unit for a new or refurbished unit. Try these sources; www.gminstrumentcluster.com, www.gmguagerepair.com, www.instrumentcluster.com, www.kincerservice.com - to list only a few possibilities. The instrument cluster can often be rebuilt for a fraction of the cost of a new unit.

If under a factory warranty, otherwise you need to call Chevrolet customer service and discuss this with them and see if they will help you out. Also look at any vehicle recalls on this item.

I doubt it but you should go to your local GM dealer and ask the service manager if he can "good will" the repair, as I understand according to my close friend who is a service manager at a Cadillac dealer that is the inrternal language used to cover a repair that is not a covered part or is out of warranty. Not a sure thing but try it. Maybe a discreet tip would help.

The answers you might receive and information availability depends on the volunteers to answer the question. Since the AutoMD site is based on contributions and volunteers - there is obligation to provide answers.
Pretty easy to do. Go to the passenger side of dash and remove glove box for working room. There is a lower panel below the dash that needs to be removed.
Disconnect the heater hoses under hood.
Once panel under dash is removed you will see the heater box.
Remove the 6-8 bolts around the very base of it, it will able to be lowered down and you will see the heater core.

The core has a couple of brackets that hold it in place - remove these. put new one in its place. The installation is the reverse of the removal.

Why doesn't my door close sensor work?
My 91k mi Monte Carlo has the feature where the radio (and other accs.) stay on, after you remove the key, until you open the door or 20 minutes, whichever comes first. Lately, when I open the door, the radio will sometimes remain on until I shut the door just ...

      1. Check for power on the Orange wire at the door lock switch.

      2. If no power, check the MIR/LKS fuse in the under hood electrical center.

Key wont turn in steering wheel
110000 miles left me stranded i suspect key cylinder or some safety or anti theft device

Make sure shifter is all the way in park or neutral. If the key wont turn it likely has worn out lock cylinder. Only antitheft or safety to prevent from turning is the gear selector. If you have GM Passlock with a chip in your key it may require special procedures for replacing lock cylinder.

There is no anti-theft involved in the ignition lock cylinder for a '95 Chevy truck. It is a plain old cheap lock cylinder but it requires following a procedure to replace it, and the procedure requires using a drill with a 1/8" bit and partial disassembly of the steering post. Typically NOT a DIY type repair, too much can go wrong for you while you remove stuff.

How do I replace the signal switch?
My left blinker was not working properly and now I have no headlights unless I hold back on the blinker lever. I do not know how to get into the switch.

You have to replace the combination switch in the column. If you have never disassembled a steering column you should take it to a mechanic or get a good service manual. The job will require some special tools like steering wheel puller, lock plate depresser and various hand tools. It should not be attempted by a novice. You have to remove the steering wheel and take apart the column internals to get to the switch. There are lots of parts to keep track of and part alignment is critical. If you attempt this you should get a service manual first. Also make sure the vehicle interior is clean as you will likely be dropping screws and snap rings. A clean carpet will make things easier to find. You should lay out your parts in order as you take them out and make alignment marks with a marker before taking things out.

There is water on the floor on the passenger side when I have the AC on. Just had an inspection prior to problem.

How can the quarter panel on the passenger side curl to where you can barely open the door without it crinkling it more?
I had it fixed 2-3 months ago for hitting a deer and they had I believe all the panels, hood and drivers door, and it didn't act up until after I got it back. It's kind of hard to get in and out of the passenger side without it making that noise where you want shrug ...

No way to tell via the internet (for obvious reasons) how much to repair any body work. The only reliable method for an auto body repair estimate is go to a local auto body shop in your area for a thorough (and hands-on) inspection.

My 1978 c20 suburban electric tailgate window is stuck in the open position and I cannot close it.
I even fabricated a tool to grab the window and attempt to force it up just short of breaking the glass. Nothing works. I believe the "window up" relay is faulty. With the window down I can't access the regulator for the glass. What can I do?

    • HouseCallAuto
      1/1/2014 HouseCallAuto
All tailgates have an access panel that was designed to be removed for access to the window. Granted that they my have plastic trim panels covering it that have to come off first. There is a way to release the window glass from the regulator but with the access panel off.

i would suggest pulling the rear panel from the tailgate and putting jumper wires from a battery or jump box to the wires going to the lift motor. it sounds more likely that the switch is bad.
