The heater fan control which has 0 to 5 controls has stopped working for setting 1 to 4. I only have off and high.
Could you please advise what part I should buy? Thank you

Your Avalanche was recalled for this in April of '11. It needs a new blower motor resistor or a blower motor control module depending on which HVAC system the truck was built with. Call a local GM dealer and make an appt, the job will be free. The recall notice is here, just read the first post in this forum >> http://www.performancetrucks.net/.../

How do you put the headlight switch-pull knob back in? It will not clip or hook in.

It may be necessary to simply replace the headlight switch. Check the many different on-line auto parts sources; such as - www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.partsgeek.com and www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the headlamp switch from around $6.99 for your vehicle; Standard Motor Products part # DS177T

Faulty hazard light switch or turn signal switch. The hazard and turn signal switch is an integral unit.

There is a very high probability that the hazard switch is junk and needs to be replaced. The hazard switch is an integral part of the turn signal switch.

Computer says service air bag. Whats involved and approx cost?

    • HouseCallAuto
      2/11/2013 HouseCallAuto
you cannot know the cost until you know which component has to be replaced. the first thing that has tpo be done is attach a code reader to the diagnostic connector and read the fault codes for the SRS. The fault codes will give a direction. This cannot be be approximated ahead of time like a brake job. I would budget $500 for the repair.

Does the '96 come with keyless entry?
I bought used two yrs ago and they didn't know if it did or not. They didn't have the keyfobs if it did. If it does have it, where can I get a replacement remote? Also, do I have to go to a dealer to get a replacement ignition key?

Trying to take my Motorcycle to bike week and need a way to transport.
Will this device work to carry my 2003 Yamaha R6 375lbs Masterbuilt HMXCR HITCH-HAUL Steel Motorcycle Carrier"holds 500lbs

    • Nissan Technical Advisor
I believe it can, as it features claims that it can hold up to 500lbs load.

Yes, because the WET weight of your motorcycle is around 420 pounds, DRY is about 350. Plus these things have a threshold upon construction. It can go to 60o lbs without any problems but that is pushing the envelope.

It will absolutely work. As long us your motorcycle weighs less or the amount of load specified. Nothing will stop it from working.
All the best in bike week!

How is bed attached to frame?
I need to change the fuel pump pressure sensor and rather than pulling the tank I'd rather pull the bed. I have pulled bed off of other models, but I've been told that these Colorados have the beds glued to the frame as well as being bolted. Is this true? If it is ...

      1) Before removing the bed, set up a pair of sturdy sawhorses in an area where you'd like to set the bed. You can set the bed up on end, but that risks damaging the paint.

      2) Using the 3/8-inch ratchet and the torx bits, open the gas door and unbolt the gas filler neck from the bed.

      3) There is a ground strap that mounts on the frame from the gas filler neck. Find the wire and unbolt it from the frame using the 3/8-inch ratchet.

      4) Using the 1/2-inch ratchet, unbolt the bed from the frame. There are eight bolts located along the frame: two on the front of the bed, four along the middle section of the frame on either side of the axle and two at the rear underneath the tailgate area. You may need to use an extension to get into some of the more difficult areas to access.

      5) Go to the rear of the bed, follow the taillight harness to where it mates up with the chassis harness and disconnect the two connectors. This should allow the bed to be free from the wiring without requiring you to remove the taillights.

      6) Get your three friends together and put one on each corner of the bed. Lift vertically at first, making sure that no leftover connections are on the truck. Pull the bed up and rearward of the truck, making sure to be careful around the bumper and the wheels. Then place the bed on the sawhorses, and the job is complete.

I purchaseda new switch for the driver side and blew the fuse. Now I am having to purchase another fuse only two months later. It was probably a bad switch I purchased from this web site.
