How to replace a tail light assembly?
I am replacing the entire tail light assembly on my 2011 Chevy Tahoe, and I was wondering if I am supposed to pull off the part covering the pins or not? The socket that the pins fit into that are in my car already are just perfect, so won't the pins on the new tail ...

If applicable, remove any mounting screws located on the outside of the tail light assembly.

Open the trunk or rear door of your vehicle and locate the back of the tail light assembly.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the tail light assembly.

Remove the tail light assembly mounting screws or nuts.

Push the tail light assembly out from behind

Compare the old assembly with the new one to ensure correct fit..

Install the new tail light assembly into the tail light pocket..

Tighten the mounting screws or nuts..

      Connect the wiring harness..

Re-check the light for proper operation..

Install any cover or trim that was removed for access.

Is my car haunted?!! Several problems simultaneously...don't know what to do please read and help...

Probably not haunted - but the issued described may be related to poor electrical connections - start at the battery terminals, then trace back to the chassis ground. Also, check the fuses and relays at the power distribution box/panel.

How do I do all of that?
    • Jimm
      3/8/2013 Jimm
Try the 'How-To-Guides' feature on the AutoMD website. For example, the battery connections should not be loose or corroded - a simple visual inspection is in order, as first step.
Also, recommend you purchase an auto repair manual; Haynes, Chilton, etc. for your vehicle.

The answer to all these things is what they all have in common, the Body Control Module or BCM. The BCM controls the daytime running lights, the interior lights, headlights, exterior lights, wiper and washer function, power door locks, ABS, the ac and heater control when equipped with manual control, theft deterrent systems, the tailgate, all audible alarms, and a few other intermingling things. That being said, do ya think ya have an issue with the BCM? I would say so. Only thing is, if there were intermittent battery voltage or insufficient battery voltage supplying the BCM, that could cause it to have a stroke also. this vehicle is well known for bad ignition switches, so confirm that all power that comes from the ignition switch never drops below normal electrical system operating voltage, which on a running engine would be around 14 volts. If you could get something to act crazy and at the same time confirm that the BCM fuses all had sufficient voltage on both sides of the fuse, that would rule out the ignition switch as the cause of your various issues. However, your intermittent "no crank", could very well be the ignition switch alone. Focus on the BCM. This BCM when replaced, has to be programmed with a TECH 2 scan tool at the dealer.

How much does that cost usually? Is it nothing I could repair myself?

It's already had an ignition replacement, brakes, 4 new tires, 2 headlight replacements, and battery replacement all in 2 years...the estimate for the BCM replacement is almost $600 and the ignition almost 200-300 😑😐I'm dumping a lot of money into this thing...

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.rockauto.com, www.partsgeek.com. For example, they (Rock Auto) list the body control module (BCM) from around $280.00 (minus core exchange) for your vehicle.

What is wrong when activating and deactivating vehicle there is a "ticking" noise coming from dash panel?
This only occurs when unlocking or op0ening doors/trunk and upon starting and shutting vehicle switching heating and cooloin settings but only last1-2 minutes at a time unless alarm is activated when doors are locked. Failure to activate alarm kills battery.

I believe that you have a bad Climate Control Assembly that is not shutting off power to one of the actuators that open and close the damper doors inside the HVAC case behind the instrument panel. This has to be confirmed by a good tech, don't go at this unless you are sure by having confirmation. This gives you a direction to go. I would bet that if you removed the fuse labeled DISPLAY that the clicking would stop. That would just confirm that the clicking is from the HVAC actuator, but it does not tell you why.

Can I up grade to power folding mirrors?

I would guess that the wiring is there in the door for the folding mirror. If I were you, I would go to dunin donuts and get a dozen donuts and three coffees and then stop at the local GM dealer parts dept and have them help you research what you need for parts. they have all the illustrations right there and can make some educated decisions about all that is needed because I am not sure that *anyone* will know with 100% certainty what needs to be installed when the truck came without this option. At least the coffee and snack will provide a "motivation" for the time they will need to spend looking for what differences there are between your truck with and without the power folding mirrors. They can for example look up the part # of the wiring harness for both trucks and see if different part #'s and look up the switch module etc. It is not a sure thing.

The vehicle has a faulty Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). It has to be replaced and then programmed with a Tech 2 scan tool. Typically, this is not a job for anyone but an experienced tech who then has a dealer contact t get the programming done *one the side*.
