The ignition Key will not advance to the "park" position so it can be removed. 2/2/2013 HouseCallAuto1. Access the plug going into the shifter assembly.
2. Backprobe the Yellow wire pin F to confirm it is 12 volts feeding to the shifter.
3. Then probe the Purple/White wire pin C to see if there is 12 volts coming through the shifter when in the park position.
4. If this is all OK, then get to the solenoid on the steering column to check if the Purple/White still has 12 volts.
5. Check the Black wire at the solenoid for chassis ground.
The switch in the shifter has typically not been serviced by itself, instead the whole shifter needs to be replaced.
2/19/2013 comstockrb2, I found the Yellow wire broken off at connector. I repaired it. 5. I found the Black wire GND broken off at connector. I repaired it. 2. yellow wire back probe or front probe equal 0 volts. Where can I get circuit diagram to trace where 12 V feeds yellow wire??

2/2/2013 JimmNeed more information - what is meant by 'anything special'? Are you referring to tools? Technique or steps? Be sure to use a magnetic screwdriver to avoid dropping the recessed screws inside the tailgate pillar.

1/29/2013 1beastlydudeyou may just need to replace the horn, in a car that old, it is probably just worn out.
try going to a junk yard, bring a battary, find some GM cars around the same year(doesnt have to be a cavalier) most of the cars used the same parts.
[find the actual horn and run leads to the battary, if it blows you have a good horn to salvage]
you can test yours the same way, just unplug your battery first, if it blows you have a fault in the wireing
try looking for a corroaded connection, or just a loose wire

1/29/2013 rickHave a body shop or paint store run the VIN # . It will tell the OEM color code . Also look on drivers door sticker , should be there too .
