When mine went out at 75k miles, I ran down the entire checklist in the service manual. It turned out to be the cruise control module under the hood by the brake master cylinder with the cable going to the throttle. Most of the time it is. You can get a better price on it with an online vendor.
shop around for best price. Get new not rebuilt. I paid $75. Easy to install.

    What sure i check?
There is steam coming out from under the hood

Need ore information - what is the condition of when you noticed steam from under the hood? After driving? For how long?
Usually this is an indication of overheating. First, let the engine cool off completely. Next, check the coolant level in the radiator / coolant tank - refill as necessary to the proper level and correct mixture of water and anti-freeze 50/50. Next, check the radiator and heater hoses for leaking / connections tight. Replace any failed or ruptured hoses. Refill the cooling system with the 50/50 anti-freeze and water mixture.
Check the cooling system for any leaks - have an inexpensive cooling system pressure test performed to determine if any leaks exist.

Is there a gas additive for cleaning egr valve
vehicle has 136,000 miles. chemical of some type was used to help clean carbon build up on egr valve so that it opens and closes, vehicle has rough idle, but runs smooth when driving.

Not really - need to first try and clean the EGR valve using a spray cleaner; such as Gumout or STP, or equivalent. This technique is typically the best method and the same used by the repair shops.

first is it your EGR valve thats bad??????????? the best stuff i think is seafoam but it not going to real clean your EGR to fix it...... is there a plug on your EGR ?????????????????????? write back and tell me i would still put seafoam in my car it will help your car perfromance also you can put it in your oil to clean the inside of your ENG. JUST READ THE CAN I SWEAR BY IT................

You may try the engine cleaner - just be careful not to expect miracles. There is no such 'magic elixer' to place in the fuel tank or anywhere else to clean the engine and restore performance.
I'd try the spray as recommended - on the EGR valve first - as this may free up and remove the gunk to help the EGR work better. This is less expensive than the EGR replacement to be sure.

Why is car needing to add coolant every week?
car has about 15,000miles. It is only driven to work and errands on average 25-30 miles daily. I have been replacing about 1/2 gallon of coolant a week. Every time is bone dry, I can tell because of the noises the holder makes when I add coolant.

Did you notice any coolant leak? I suggest that a radiator and cap pressure test should be done in your cooling system to determine the condition of your radiator and cap, and to locate any visible leak in your cooling system.

If you have verified the coolant level is fully up in the surge tank then it is likely that you have either a bad sensor or the wiring is faulty. Try unplugging the coolant level sensor and see if the light goes out. If so, replace the sensor.

My car will not start should i replace my crankshaft sensor first.and what will be the next be or what do i need to do f
do i need to replace cranksensor

    • Jimm

Do not replace the crank sensor as the first step. First, try some basic diagnostic steps; is there fuel in the tank? Does the fuel get into the engine and cylinders? Does the ignition have proper spark? Does the spark plug fire at the cylinder-level?
Does the engine just crank (starter turn over) with no indication of starting? Can you hear the fuel pump engaging?
There are many basic steps and questions such as this to be answered - before jumping in and replacing specific components - you don't want to be throwing money at the problem.

      1. Check if your getting spark first. Unplug a spark plug wire and lay it close to a bit of grounded bare chassis or body metal, have someone crank the engine and watch to see if it sparks.
      2. Check your fuel pressure whit a fuel pressure gauge. The pressure should be 41-47 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch)Position the ignition switch and the A/C system in theoff position. Install a fuel pressure gauge to thevehicles fuel rail or fuel pressure test port.Confirm that no leaks are present, and visuallyverify the PSI reading on the gauge with the ignitionin the on position.

If you have no spark then you could start changing the crank and cam sensors. But if you have low or no fuel pressure the you have a fuel system. Check fuel relay the fuel pump if turns on when turning the key.

Airbag service light has been coming on and off for a while, a friend told me it's the wiring harness in the steering column. True?
