Why is car needing to add coolant every week?silvi - 2001 Cadillac Catera - Preventive Maintenance - 12/27/2011car has about 15,000miles. It is only driven to work and errands on average 25-30 miles daily. I have been replacing about 1/2 gallon of coolant a week. Every time is bone dry, I can tell because of the noises the holder makes when I add coolant.-
12/27/2011 yboy82Did you notice any coolant leak? I suggest that a radiator and cap pressure test should be done in your cooling system to determine the condition of your radiator and cap, and to locate any visible leak in your cooling system.

12/12/2011 Spoon SportsIf you have verified the coolant level is fully up in the surge tank then it is likely that you have either a bad sensor or the wiring is faulty. Try unplugging the coolant level sensor and see if the light goes out. If so, replace the sensor.

My car will not start should i replace my crankshaft sensor first.and what will be the next be or what do i need to do fbob - 1998 Cadillac DeVille - Preventive Maintenance - 12/8/2011do i need to replace cranksensor-
12/8/2011 JimmDo not replace the crank sensor as the first step. First, try some basic diagnostic steps; is there fuel in the tank? Does the fuel get into the engine and cylinders? Does the ignition have proper spark? Does the spark plug fire at the cylinder-level?
Does the engine just crank (starter turn over) with no indication of starting? Can you hear the fuel pump engaging?
There are many basic steps and questions such as this to be answered - before jumping in and replacing specific components - you don't want to be throwing money at the problem.

My car will not start should i replace my crankshaft sensor first.and what will be the next be or what do i need to do fbob - 1998 Cadillac DeVille - Preventive Maintenance - 12/7/2011do i need to replace cranksensor-
12/7/2011 Jay Giron1. Check if your getting spark first. Unplug a spark plug wire and lay it close to a bit of grounded bare chassis or body metal, have someone crank the engine and watch to see if it sparks.
2. Check your fuel pressure whit a fuel pressure gauge. The pressure should be 41-47 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch)Position the ignition switch and the A/C system in theoff position. Install a fuel pressure gauge to thevehicles fuel rail or fuel pressure test port.Confirm that no leaks are present, and visuallyverify the PSI reading on the gauge with the ignitionin the on position.
If you have no spark then you could start changing the crank and cam sensors. But if you have low or no fuel pressure the you have a fuel system. Check fuel relay the fuel pump if turns on when turning the key.

How do i change the waterpump drive belt?victorott - 1998 Cadillac Seville - Preventive Maintenance - 11/18/2011before i start removing nuts to get to the belt,is this an easy job or not one for a non-mechanic?-
10/19/2011 Spoon SportsUse a socket on the bolt head and an open end or box wrench on the nut. Loosen the nut and then pull the bolt out of the "dog bone" aka torque strut. Rotate it up and out of the way. Now look at the belt tensioner. There is a 1/4" square hole in the back side. Use the drive lug from a 1/4" breaker bar or ratchet to rotate it and relieve the tension to get the belt off. Inspect that tensioner closely. -

10/20/2011 peterwhen align a car ana the car keep on wanders to one side of the road what is going on. -
11/18/2011 Spoon SportsWhen does the car pull? Does it happen when you are driving on a straight flat road? Is it only when you are accelerating? Does it pull only when the brakes are applied?
If the car pulls while driving at a constant speed on a straight flat road, then you either have a tire inflation problem, mismatched, or defective tires, an alignment problem, or possibly a sticking brake caliper.
A slight pull under heavy acceleration on a front wheel drive car may be normal. This is called "torque steer" and is caused because the front drive axles are not the exact same length (not a defect, just a fact with most FWD designs) The transmission is not located in the exact center of the car, and on axle must be longer than the other. This causes a pull under hard acceleration!
If you have a brake problem, it could also cause the car to pull when the brakes are applied.
Check the tires for obvious problems and correct inflation. If they seem ok, have the car checked by a qualified mechanic.
