    Repalcement Refurbish, remanufactored..rebuit....out of junked car ?
    water from radiator goes into oil..I believe block cracked...but could be seals/head gaskets I guess too. Exterior & interior all in great shape...but want to replace engine...and not cost a mint. Any advice on above engine choices ??..Whats the differences in ...

      With coolant leaking into the oil, the cause is most likely to be a bad head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. Do not reach any conclusion until you change the oil and monitor it for this problem repeating.

      There are at least two tests to perorm in order to determine the leak source and to what extent the repairs should be; one) cyliner leakdown test, and two) cylinder compression test - these are inexpensive in comparison to the repair or a rebuilt engine.

      Thank you. I know how to do compression test but not thr leak test,
      Today put in new battery..woudn"t crank over or even w/ bad solenoid.It sat up for a year before it was gived to me.All electric came on...w/ multiple dummy"check engie, fluids"alerts.Head gaket could be ether front ( easiser to replace ) or back onr ( harder to rplace ), right ? What about testing for bad starter or altenator? Will change out oil...but can't heat it up first as she won't start. Change atifreeze?

      Also, as radiator was dry when I first clhecked it,I added water to it, still didn't crank but dip stick then felt more like water than oil consistency & smeled more like gas than oil. Radiator went dry w/o leaks on ground or from hoses. Should old gas be drained ( how ) or just new premium added ? Haven't got it to fire over/crank yet.

      The cooling system capacity - when empty holds 12.5 quarts (11.8 liters). This would be; 6.25 quarts of anti-freeze to the same amount of water - for the proper 50/50 mixture.

    I encountered a leak and found the wheel where the anti freeze is leaking, is behind this wheel..not sure of the name?
    there is a slight knock and wobble when the engine is running and this wheel in question shakes by about 2 mm where the anti freeze is leaking from..mounted on the side of engine, tensioner might be the name, centered in the serpentines belt about midway on right ...

      This may be the water pump and pulley on the front of the pump. The water pump may be leaking from the center bearing and seal area.
      Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse,, or for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the water pump (includes gasket) from around $29.00 for your vehicle.

      Only you may answer the difficulty of this repair - as a first step, chek the 'How-To-Guides' feature on the AutoMD website, and reference an auto repair manual - such as at the local library to research the steps involved for your vehicle.
      thankyou Jimm, this was very helpful...I ended up giving in to the woes of "just let the mechanic take care of it!" End of repairs cost $306. ....and to see the rockAuto cost for a water pump (includes gasket) just makes the burn (in my pocket) much more there a way to avoid being burned by a mechanic that includes the cost of his repairs by inflating the part value to beyond and above what the fix entails?
      The part listed at autoZone was about the same as the cost of the part which I quoted to the mechanic from RockAuto, runs from between 26 - 45 dollars low to high end...includes gasket sealers and the works..don't know why he could only find a replacement part for 80+ dollars but that was the answer I got after listening to his advice which, subsequently.. was followed by his assistant who came into the room behind him..."yeah, its a hard fix cause its how cadillacs are made...have to get down there in the engine"...go fig. geez!!!*&^$#@

    What does the code P1518 mean?
    I drove through a puddle of water and the car cut off,after a while and several trys it started up and the engine light came on and it started driving sluggish like it was going to cut off .

      P1518 = Throttle Actuator Control Module Performance
      Possible causes:
      - Dead or weak battery
      - Poor circuit connection - Check Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) module connector for water
      - Faulty Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) module

      When is the code detected?

      The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a loss of data or invalid data from the Throttle Actuator Control (TAC)

      - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
      - No throttle response

      P1518 CADILLAC Description
      The Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) module contains data which is essential for proper TAC operation. The TAC module continuously test the integrity of this data. When the TAC module is unable to write or read data to and from random access memory (RAM), or the TAC module is unable to correctly read data from the flash memory or and internal TAC module processor fault is detected and the Detected Trouble Code (DTC) is set.

      There are several Cadillac Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) for the P1518 code - check the AutoMD website for the TSB details.

      Thanks I put some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in my gas tank and drove around and let the car sit for a few hours when i started it again the light had gone out.

    What will cause my air-conditioning compressor clutch not to engage?
    160,000 miles When I press auto button on ac control it wont stay on and goes to econ.

      The a/c compressor will engage when; the a/c system is filled with refrigerant, the compressor fuse, relays, wiring / connections and switch / controls are working correctly. If the a/c system is fully charged, then check these other items in the system - starting with the switch, the wiring / connections and fuses to the compressor.

      Since there may be the technical service bulletin and your vehicle is MY 2012 - what does the dealership suggest they might do about this issue on your vehicle? By the way, the correct TSB designation is: PIP4523A

      Here is information and a website ( on what GM is claiming as 'normal' noise for the supercharger....WOW!!

      The torsional isolator is used in the CTSv LSA engine to isolate potential gear rattle noise during idle. The isolator contains a torsional spring that fits over the shaft. Purpose of the shaft is to distribute the stresses in the torsional spring. As the spring goes thru its travel, the inside of the coils can contact the shaft. The spring material is intentionally harder than the shaft which by design results in visual witness marks and/or limited wear on the shaft. The witness marks and/or limited wear is expected and has been observed on all the Eaton component durability tests, GM engine and vehicle durability tests and on customer vehicles with no impact on the functionality of the spring and isolator. The shaft and isolator are in a sealed cavity, separate from the rest of the supercharger and engine.

      Q: Will this shaft wear harm my engine?

      A: No. The visible wear will not damage the engine. The supercharger and the engine were tested and successfully validated to meet all GM durability requirements…which are much more severe than any customer usage.

      Q: What causes this wear?

      A: The isolator contains a torsional spring that fits over the shaft. The purpose of the shaft is to better distribute the stresses in the torsional spring and prolong its life. As the spring goes thru its travel, the inside of the coils can contact the shaft. The spring is a harder material than the shaft…so that when there is contact, the spring will not potentially break. If the spring breaks, then the torsional isolator function is lost.

      I have worked on GM anti-theft systems for many years in all different body styles and never had to ever replace an anti-theft module. That being said I believe that you may have something else going on here.In more than 90% of all cases relating to a no crank situation in the PassKey system, the cause is at least one wire being broken at the ignition lock cylinder which you said you replaced already? Your first sentence is not clear to me. **I've replaced the key, tumbler for the key had programmed.** Does this sentence say you replaced the ignition lock cylinder?
