You have not mentioned whether you even checked the basics. The side terminal connections on GM vehicles have a tendency to sometimes corrode under the vinyl covers and this powder-like corrosion acts like a resistor and causes an open circuit even when the terminal is tight. So, confiorm that the terminals are clean and bright copper showing at the place oif contact to the lead face of the battery connection. Take the 5/16" bolt out of the terminal end (usually it is the positive that corrodes) and slip off the vinyl cover to make it easier to clean the terminals. After youi tell me you have confirmed that the battery connevction is good I will continue to advise you. And by the way, if this battery needs replacement, do so at the same time.

Car will not start when you turn the key
car will not start but when you bypass the starter relay it will start

When you bypass the starter relay, I assume that the engine cranks and starts but stalls right away? If that is the case and you also have a security light illuminated on the dash, then your cause is a broken wire that leads to the ignition lock cylinder probably right at the rear of the lock cylinder. If you check fault codes there is probably a P1626 give or take a few digits at the end. There is a way to bypass this security system if you want to, just google "passkey bypass" or replace the lock cylinder in the column . The lock cylinder comes with the small gauge wires attached to it with a really tiny connector at the end.

WHEN ACCELERATING I HEAR WHINNING SOUND COMING FROM THE THE ENGINE
iT SEEMS IT IS ONLY HEARD FROM THE INSIDE WHILE DRIVING, POWER STEERING IS FINE. THE WHINNING STARTS AROUND 25 MPH AND CONTINUES THE DURATION OF THE DRIVE ABOVE 25 MPH. 76000 MILES NO ENGINE LIGHTS ON, NO BROKEN BELTS. TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SEEM TO BE LABORING.

As a first step - raise the hood and with assistance (with the transmission in Park) observe for the sound at different engine speeds.

Several possibilites; worn accessory / serpentine drive belt, worn / faulty belt tensioner, worn belt idler pulley, drive belt misalignment. The parts are readily available from these many on-line sources, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities. For example, they (RockAuto) list the drive belts from around $8.00, the belt tensioner from around $28.00, the belt idler pulley from around $26.00 for your vehicle.

Read fault codes with a code reader. You can obtain a code reader from amazon the cheapest anywhere - $20 and reading the codes takes a minute. Consider replacing the two upstream oxygen sensors and check over very carefully for a vacuum leak.

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
      Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
      Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

      Dirty or worn spark plugs
      Bad plug wires
      Weak ignition coil
      Wet plug wires

What is wrong when dic message is: theft system not working, car may not start
i turned the car off and it did restart. and mwssage has not reappeared

In most cases it means that you need a new ignition lock cylinder. There is a bypass if you Google "PassKey bypass". It might not start at any time so do not ignore this message.

Replace the ignition control module. I can tell you how to check and confirm this as your cause but unless you have a automotive lab scope to look at the waveforms you can't. That said, replace the ICM and this stands a high probability of a fix.

have replaced ICM ignition control mod 2x also replaced ecm electronic control mod (computer) 2x & had cad delear repogram service dept test said that computer malfunction need new one. the ones I have are remanutactory. I think they wanted more money. needless so say their estimate was more than cars worth.

I assume that the engine still runs? You did not say.

      1. Using the labscope, check the crank and cam sensor signals making sure they are in sync with each other
      .
      2. If the cam and crank are out of sync, check to see if the timing chain has jumped on the cam sprocket or if the chain was installed incorrectly.

If the cam and crank sensors are out of sync with each other, a code P0340 will set. When this happens, all the signals in from the sensors cam, crank sensor A, and B will be good, but there will be no output from the ignition module to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for the cam sensor.

What does it cos to repair heating coil
Car starts smoking when it warms up or I use my heat.

The heater core part itself is inexpensive; around $43.00 from these many on-line sources, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.

The expense will be to have the new heater core installed, try the 'Find-A-Shop' and 'Estimate Cost' resources on the AutoMD website.

1999 Cadillac STS Dies in the Extreme Cold
I own a 1999 Cadillac STS. For a long time the car was dying on me while I was idle at a stop light. What would happen would be, once I came to a complete stop and sit idle for a while the engine would just stop. I would then have to turn the car off, and upon ...

I've had my codes read, and some of them printed out, I need an automd opinion...
I went to autozone, the guy read my codes and printed out some of them: P0174, P0302, P0171, P0151, P0131, P0741; I was also told I may need my crankshaft position sensors checked out...

Too many codes. As a first step - disconnect the negative battery connection for at least 20 minutes to clear all the fault codes. Then, reconnect and drive like normal. Have the fault codes re-read to see which one is priority. Post a reply with this fault code for further assistance.

P0171 and P0174 indicate a vacuum leak and this car being a Cadillac I would bet with a greater than 99% accuracy that the air intake boot that is between the throttle body and the intake manifold has a crack at the bottom.
P0302 is a misfire on cylinder number 2 - bad ignition wire or bad coil or bad spark plug or even a misfire because of the vacuum leak or a code is stored from when you had run the engine with the #2 wire disconnected.
P0131 and P0151 would both also set as a result of the vacuum leak
The worst code you have going on here is the P0741 code which most times is a bad code to get because it usually means the tranny has a serious internal problem.

      Happy New Year

Plug in a code reader and see what fault codes are stored. That is the next thing to do. This step cannot be skipped. Amazon has a code reader for $17 with free shipping. Post the code numbers after you read codes and update this post.

Is my engine about to blow?; what are symptoms of fuel injector problems?
my car does not start right up like it should, and this is every time I have to start it; it has to crank a little bit maybe misfire a couple times and then start; its making my car act like it wants to stall out at the stop light, and the stop sign and I'm sure ...
