In this case we go with what we know already from these codes you posted. You have a vacuum leak or a lean condition causing the P0171 and P0174. Those codes are like peanut butter and jelly, they almost always show up together. The P0300 is a misfire caused by the extreme lean condition.

      1. Check for a vacuum leak at the boot between the throttle body and the upper intake manifold plenum. It's a stubby kind of boot, easily missed. This is a dealer only part.

      2. Spray water on the upper intake manifold, check for RPM response.

The P1106 and the P0108 share causes. Replace the map sensor, not a sure thing but very high probability. If the cause is not a map sensor then the real cause is a clogged cat. Go with the map.

The P0410 and the P1415 share causes and is likely going to be a bad AIR (air injector reactor) also referred to simply as an 'air pump". These pumps had a problem because of the hose routing of injesting water and burning out the motor. Most often you will find the fuse for the air pump blown. that is basically confirmation that the pump is junk. If you confirm the bad pump, make sure you use part # 19515548 available at most GM dealers or a one day order or even internet now that I have given you the part #. the kit contains everything you will need to replace the air pump and hoses and the kit reflects all modifications made to prevent a repeat of the bad motor.

And lastly... the P0442............try replacing the gas cap.

Ok, thats all I got. I feel like I just worked a full day.

Had car aligned last week & inspected, when I went to crank to back out of guys garage, it was over cranking.?
I shut the engine off, then it wouldn't start up, the guy said the car was not all the way in Park. So I then pushed on gear stick to put in park. Apparently they had left somewhat out of park position. When I went to crank it did fine that time. Yesterday ...

How many miles are on it ? A few things . Are the fans coming on ? Turn the A/C on and see if fans come on . Maybe radiator plugged ? And last a blown head gasket will also do this .

I will go get a new battery tomorrow. The car does have a security light on at the dash board. It sometimes turned on by itself before but did not affect anything. Now it is always on. I do not know what kind of security function the car has. Thanks for your response.

When dash gas gauge gets below 50% it acts erratically
can vary from empty to full, 80,000 miles. Noticed it starting a few months ago, when I knew I needed gas because I reset the trip mileage every time I fill up. There are no other warning lights

Should I use Blue Devil sealant on this engine? I am losing coolant through the head I guess.
I changed the thermostat & I am still losing coolant through the engine.

How do I find out what's causing my fuel gauge to give me a false reading?
If I fill my car up I get an accurate reading until it gets to half a tank, then the gauge fluctuates from half to full or all the way empty.

This question is for a 1964 mercury when I turn the key it will stay running until I let go of the key then it shuts off
I think it's the coil but just want a second opinion so I know for sure it's a truck f 100 they call it but it's a mercury

Somewhere on this engine's ignition system there is a ballast resistor. it's function is to allow full voltage during startup to allow easier starting and when the ignition key is released to the run position the voltage is reduced. if i remember correctly the old Chrysler white ballast resistors had two resistors in one. when you start the car the circuit currect flows through the 1/2 ohm side of the resistor and when the key was released the current flowed through the other side (5 ohms) so a hotter spark at the plugs during startup. Your mercury 1964 used I believe a piece of resistor wire rated at (?) but it is still referred to as a ballast resistor. I believe that your cause here is that this wire is open. Follow the circuit wires from the positive of the coil and you may find the cause. i do not have a 64 wiring diagram to refer to to get more specific.
