the Blower has been replaced and even when on High there is very little air coming out the under dash vents or the dash vents. Only the Defroster works well.

I need to know what happens when you move the mode switch off of defroster to floor? Does the air continue to come out of the defroster vents when it is the other positions that should stop the defroster?

The air flow stops going to the windshield vents and it tries to come out the Dash and under dash vents.

The most likely cause is a faulty mode door actuator that is able to begin to move enough to engage the defroster but stops moving before moving the door position enough to allow air flow to the other positions.

Is it under the dash and is it hard to replace?

It is under the dash but at this point the advice has to be specific. Buy a repair manual or find the procedure online to "replace mode door actuator - deville". And I might just remove the actuator first and move the door with my hand to confirm that the actuator is the cause.

What do you recommend for changing the tape deck to a CD player
I'm using a CD player with a cassette adapter and it's driving me crazy! The tape player is acting nuts when I put in the tape it clicks from side to side then spits the tape out

    Cadillac electrical issues?
1998 Cadillac Seville Sts. Alternator on the car went bad, Had the alternator replaced, then I got a voltage reading of 16.5 ( too high ) I took the car back to the mechanic and They did a rebuild on the alternator... Now. For two years 98/99 They put a Thermistor ...

I got lost right when you said they put a thermistor on the hot wire from the battery. I can tell you however, that the normal range of voltage is 13.0 to 16.0 volts on the charging system of this car. This varying voltage is not causing things not to work. The mere mention of this could throw off the mechanic that has to diagnose what is the real cause of rear defrost, gas gauge, sunroof, power locks etc. I have not a clue about why any electronic component like a thermistor would be placed anywhere on this car, it sounds strange.

I agree. The way it was explained to me was the Thermistor is working basically like a sensor for the battery temp and sends a signal to the alternator to let it know the battery is getting too cold or too hot and hence give it more or less charge? That kinda makes sense to me but Still isn't really needed.... but this is Cadillac so? I have no idea. I'm assuming that this thermistor may have malfunctioned or the wire is bad and the alternator was charging the battery too much.

Yes but the voltage you mentioned is within specs. This info right out of all data information system. Also, had you said "battery temperature sensor" rather than thermistor I would have understood. Yes some cars have a battery temp sensor. I have never ever seen one give any sort of problem ever.

I need you to clarify what is happening and be very detailed. The air flow can blow out the defroster or the vents or the floor or a combination. Do you feel air blowing out anywhere? or do you fell like nothing but you hear the blower motor?

Where is the cabin air filter located, and how do I put a new filter in?
Cabin air filter location possibly could be under the glove box, but removing it looks complicated.

I have had a slow leak that has just this week turned into a significant leak of antifreeze coolant. It pools up on the driver's side mat. I always wondered why the mat was damp, but now it is actually WET. I was getting a "Low Coolant" message about once a month, ...

The heater core is the only component that carries coolant into the car. Yes it sounds odd that the pass side floor is not wet, but I still say heater core. Look with a flex light. Find the entry point. Look for the coolant drips on the heater case in the center.

You have to buy a replacement glass for the mirror from GM if you want that "genuine GM feeling" but when you are told the cost of the glass you may have some second thoughts. I would bet that there are replacements on various sites that are regular mirrors at regular prices.

If the battery is older than 2.5 years and / or this car is not a daily driver, replace the battery and see if your problem is resolved. Do not rely on someone checking the battery and saying its good, not in this type of situation. 90% of all situations like you describe are caused by a bad battery.
