SRS light stays on at all times
SRS light stays on. I was told it is a problem with the passenger restraint and that a dealer should fix it free of charge. Is this true? I don't know the specific code.

Check these various on-line vendors; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.RockAuto.com, www.partsgeek.com, to list only a few. For example, they (RockAuto) list the alternator (remanufactured) from around$108.00 for your vehicle. Of course, this is only the alternator - depending on the repair shop, you may figure 0.5-0.75 hours labor, so at a rate of perhaps $100.00 per hour, either $50.00 to $75.00 for the installation.

By the way, the best time to obtain cost quotes - or inquire about an expense for any repair - is before the task is started.

      Hey Jim,

Thanks for your reply. Well I was thinking the same thing for the cost of the part (right around $105). On the invoice, the mechanic charged me $300 for the part and $90 for the labor (1.5 hrs). I questioned him on the cost of the part, and he indicated he got all his parts from Fisher Auto Parts. After calling them, they indicated the part cost $210.50. Seems a little expensive, but in any case, less than $300.

      Gotta love getting screwed!

I replaced the blower motor. It runs fine, but I am not getting any air from the vents. What could be causing that?

Probably a directional door/actuator under the dash not operating properly. So it doesn't blow out the floor-- defrost or anywhere? I haven't looked at your hvac info. Some actuators are vacuum controlled some have electrical circuits, check vacuum or voltage, where applicable.

Also, the battery/alternator is messed up. The battery won't hold a charge so we think something is also draining the battery somewhere, but would the low voltage cause this?

Took a hit in the engine under cover. No oil spill or check engine light on. Should I be worried or drive as usual?

Not likely that there is anything to concern about except the cost of tires and a new undercover. Don't forget to order new retainers for the undercover unless they tell you that it is held on with metal bolts. many have plastic fasteners that break when you undo them.

First have the ABS scanned for the code it likely needs a new wheel speed sensor. The code will tell you which sensor to fix. You can buy a code reader or have it scanned at Autozone. Wet floor board during rain means leaky door seal or hole in floor. Check the rubber seal around the door for cracks rips dents kinks or any misalignment. Use 3M weatherstrip adhesive to reattach the door seal. You can peel back the carpet to examine the floorboard. In northern states winter salt will rust out your floor boards and may need panel replacement. If it only has small hole or cracks you can patch it and spray seal both inside and under car with rubberized undercoating. Your window motor may be getting weak. You can take off the door panel and lubricate the window regulator and tracks to free it up or replace the motor. The belt squeeling with the A/C on is probably worn out belt or misadjusted tensioner. You should replace the squeeling belts. As for the dent on the hood you could try to pound it out yourself or have it fixed at a body shop. Probably the best way would be to replace the entire hood. There are tons of aftermarket hoods for sale and just as many used hoods out there for this vehicle. A quick Ebay Craigslist or junkyard search will no doubt find you a cheap replacement hood possibly matching your paint. Think I covered everything. If you are new to auto repairs the best money you can spend is on a service manual. I recommend Haynes manual from Autozone. It has complete instructions and illustrations to fix almost anything on your car. Also a good digital camera helps remember how things go together. Take a picture before you take things apart and label your parts in baggies for easier reassembly. Your vehicle is highly customizable. Almost every part can be replaced with aftermarket or quality used parts. Do not settle for in store stock or dealership overpriced parts. Shop online for parts if planning a project and special tools can be rented at Autozone You have a long list of small problems. Take them on one at a time and always budget for a big problem. If you plan on keeping an older car there will be maintenence costs large and small but it will always be cheaper and more satisfying to fix your car than have car payments every month. For the price of a new car for one year you could replace your entire drivetrain three times.

Hvac control switch only works on high mode
My problem pertains to a Peterbilt truck. Assuming ac/heat control devices are the same for all vehicles; here's my problem. The fan speed dial blows air only at highest mode (4). When I turn it down to 3 , 2 , or 1 it blows nothing. Replacing the switch inside ...

Stop at a truck parts place and buy a blower resistor. It is usually easy to replace on most vehicles. You didn't say a year or model, but I googled "Peterbilt blower resistor" and I'll bet your resistor loks a lot like this one >> https://www.google.com/search
The location will be on the heater / ac housing under the dash yes, but usually accessible. On a car sometimes you have to open and let the glove box door drop down by releasing the stops and then you can see the heater housing and the resistor usually held in place with 2 screws. Good luck.
