do I have to pull the engine to change the oil pump, and is there an upper and a lower oil pump?

No the engine doesn't "need" to be removed to change the oil pump however this is a big job. there is only one oil pump. Pretty much anything attached to the bottom of the engine needs to be removed and then the oil pump runs off the crank shaft and the timing belt will need to come off to remove the pump. Again it is a big job, but it can be done without removing the engine.
