1996 Nissan 200SX SE 4Cyl1.6L - Engine
Can the oil leak be fixed or do I need a whole new engine?
My car started smoking from the exhaust and bogging out around 2500 rpm, we took it to a mechanic that tried replacing the distributor and mass air flow sensor, neither were the problem. We took it to a different mechanic who said gas was getting into the charcoal canister, oil was leaking into the cylinders, and timing chain was off by 1 tooth. He didn't fix the tooth because he said we needed a new engine because of the oil leak, but he fixed the car so it would run slightly better. The car still smokes and bogs out, but not as bad, and still only around 2500 rpm's. The check engine light is not on, but this did start a day after we replaced a valve cover gasket seal, and it smokes and bogs out more when the car is warmed up.

Either you need a complete overhaul or a new engine. Id go with the new engine option though.
