Where exactly is the oil filter located on my 2009 Pontiac G3? It doesn't appear to look like a traditional filter

  The cover is actually a canister. On the very bottom side (that would be the side closest to the ground) there is a little ratchet thing up next to the oil pan that keeps the canister from turning counter clockwise. You will have to hold the little ratchet thing up while you turn the canister counter-clockwise (I used a flat head screwdriver and it was quite easy).
  The canister has a removable paper cartridge inside of it.
