  Aside from knocking sound, did you feel any vibration? I suspect that something is cracked in the assembly; I recommend to examine the suspected area of noise; remove the parts if necessary (disc caliper, rotor, pads). Also, this may not be a brake issue problem; it could be your CV/U joint is worn or out of lubrication. Possible also it’s a suspension problem (worn shocks or struts) or the steering components are worn. Check these areas and replace parts promptly to prevent serious damage.
