i installed new battery car in mercedes 2004 e320 but the light still on

it has 87k mi, just installed the battery , light comes on it says visit work shop with battery picture

  Battery/Charging Alert:
  Indicates voltage level is below normal level and the vehicle's charging system is not functioning properly. Check battery terminals, alternator belt, and battery condition.
  
  Local auto parts stores will test this vehicle charging system with their mobile analyzer for free of charge and they will confirm accurately the results of this problem.
  Note: the voltage output from the alternator must deliver between 13.5 to 14.5 volts in order to turn off the battery light.

  Replace the faulty alternator and you are done. Probability here is 100%.

  It will reset it self after 24 hours or so

  I have never heard of a battery light that comes on that will reset itself after 24 hours. Thats not right.
