when idling the motor lopes and when engaging transmission into gear it jerks very hard

  the lopeing is most likley due to a vacume leak, the transmission jerks hard becase the motor is at a higher than useual idel
  
  hypothetically the transmission is designed to engage at 700rpms
  you truck lopes from 600- 1200 , anything above the engageing speed will cause a jerk, and possibly damage
  
  now with the vacume leak ( they can be hard to find) look over all vacume lines with a good flashlight and your fingers, look for dry rot, splits, disconnected lines . you may have a intake manifold leak
