  You should reference the owners and maintenance manuals for your vehicle. Basically, an engine tune-up is only required for the following conditions; poor / sudden drop in fuel mileage, loss of power.
  Of course, with the recommended maintenence for the fuel and air filters, for example - you can realize the maximum mileage and performance between tune-ups. Generally speaking, you can expect the spark plugs as the only 'major' component that would need replacement during an engine tune-up - these should around 60,000 - 100,000 miles easily.
