How do I replace the 3 rear spark plugs? Or do I really need to remove the intake manifold?

I think you are asking if the air intake plentum will need to be removed to get to the back spark plugs. I would say that would be the easiest way to do it, just make sure before you take it off you pick yourself up a new plenum gasket so if the old ones cracks you have a replacement to put it right back together. Shouldn't be to much for the gasket.

the plenum bolts to the intake manifold, you'll have to remove any vacuum lines and throttle cables/ wiring in order to take off the plenum.

replace the gasket while you have the plenum off the plenum might have a torque seqence and torque spec.

i have same problem with my 02 merc sable and yes you have to remove the intake. dont risk damaging it by forcing it back to allow for space so you can get your socket in the plug holes. it sucks, but has to be done

try putting car jack under engine, jacking up a little , sometimes that helps, or try reaching them from underneath
