How difficult is swapping out a transmission on a 1997 BMW 328?Thinking of doing it myself.

  pretty much the same as any trans.. The auto is harder than the Standard..

  If you've never done a transmission on one of these before, I suggest you get a Chiltons, Bentley or Haynes repair manual for this car. These give you very detailed step by step instructions on disassembly and installation and even give you things like fill procedures and transmission adaptation and break in procedures. The job itself is easy although time consuming and access to a 2 post vehicle lift is a very nice thing to have considering it's a very difficult job to complete on jack stands.
