How do you know when coil springs are bad?
My car seems to be riding rough, and the rear seems like it's lowering

The coil springs on your car seldom if ever will need to be replaced. The only reason to replace them is if they are broken (not worn but actually broken in more than one part) or if you want to change the ride height. Other wise you probably just need new shocks not coil springs.

Well, I've had new shock put on it, but that didn't seem to fix the problem, the rear of my car is lower than it should be, and while driving even the slightest dip in the road it seems like the rear is bottoming out. So, what controls the height of a vehicle?

Sorry............. The coil springs controlled the height. The original springs must be in a bad shape.
