how do i change out the lifters for my bmw 328i

    why do you need to do this, remove valve cover timing componets camshafts the lifters are under the lobes this is a big job what happened ???

    The engine's been making a tapping noise that's been growing louder. I'm not sure if the car's still under warranty. Thanks for your help. I'll evidently have to take it in, regardless.

    Your car is still under the 4 year 50,000 warranty assuming you haven't hit the 50,000 miles yet. Even if it is over the 50K, I had the same problem with noisy exhaust lifters in my 2008 328 xiT at 16,000 miles, and BMW changed them out under warranty under a "Technical Service Bulletin "Program". i.e. they know there is a problem, but not bad enough for a recall. Because of the variable valve timing etc, this is a difficult job that you wouldn't want to do yourself. It took the dealer 6 hours. Go to your nearest BMW dealer. If they give you a problem, find another one. If that doesn't work, call BMW headquarters.
