  Not sure what you mean by a purging sound. Do you mean a gurgling or bubbling sound? And where are you hearing it come from? Passenger side dash possibly?

  sounds like a soinoid or valve opening and closing when the heater is turned on and will come on and off while heater is in use
  Sound comes from up front engine compartment passenger side.
