possible head gasket may need replaced or?
my car has 170,000 miles on it. I have replaced the radiator and thermostat about 8 months ago. it leaks. Since last summer it get hot goes over the half way mark on the thermostat so I turn on the heater. in the winter is runs fine but once the warm weather comes it heats up again and I need to turn on the heater to get the heat off the engine so I can get home from work.
it is in the shop now and if they find the head gasket is bad would it be worth fixing? I cannot afford a car payment and my finances are tight tight tight. someone suggested a sealant to the radiator? can someone advise me whaat to do? fix it, sell it or rig it up?

If the repair cost is half the value of the car, looking for another car may be a better choice. You'll have to look at the overall condition (tires, transmission, body, etc.) before making a decision .

I just got a call from the mech he let the car sit for over a 1/2 hour and had it on the machine he does not see the head gasket as the issue. However when I bought the car 6 yers ago the gauge would never go over the half way mark of C (cold - H (hot). not when it goes over the half way mark I freak out and turned on the heater to pull the heat from the engine so I never seen how far the gauge would go. Even on the highway when it would get hot I would turn on the heater. So what am I to think??

Have you checked the radiator fan operation?

He checked the fans and said they are fine. I asked him to take the car out on the road and make dbl darn sure. I thought it was the head gasket but now Im thinking maybe not..
