Front torque rods? Maybe you are referring to the front suspension strut assemblies? Anyway, their purpose is to control the action of the coil spring. The coil spring purpose is to absorb and smooth out road bumps and maintain a level, controlled body.

The condition of leaking struts or shocks is unsafe only to the point of loss of control when steering - other that this type extreme condition, the struts are usually replaced at intervals around 50k miles.

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.drivewire.com or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts.
