Where is the engine temp sensor located on the 305v8?

The engine temp gauge on the dash doesn't move. I bought a new sensor - pretty sure the sensor is bad but I can't find the darn thing.

  My info says the sending unit is driver side of engine below exhaust manifold.

  I just wanted to add. With one wire sending unit. Turn on the key, have helper watch the gage. You take the connector loose from sending unit, quickly ground wire to engine block, the gage should start moving. If it does, I agree with you. If it doesn't, you may have another problem.
