2001 Toyota Corolla CE 4Cyl1.8L - Engine
Engine pinging in warm weather at higher rpm
When the temperature gets above 80, I hear a pinging sound as I accelerate from about 55mph on up. No chech engine lights come on, I tried 92 gas and the problem was less severe, but still there.

several factors contribute to engine ping, timing too far advanced, wrong octane fuel, built up carbon in the cyl head ,if your engine is running lean it will also ping,if your cooling system is not cooling the engine enough it can ping.anything that causes the engine combustion to raise over 2500 degrees can cause the motor to ping

There are several confirmed fixes of pinging on the Corolla because of defective mass air flow sensors. Replacing the MAF sensor solved the ping. No guarantee that this is your cause but you have a high probability of this being right.
