2005 GMC Sierra Denali Base 8Cyl6.0L - Engine
Engine overheating / no heat
My engine is overheating but i do not have heat. I think its my thermostat. When my engine heats up I dont think my fan is engaging either. I can smell antifreeze when the truck was driven for a while .Could this be a senor or related to a bad thermostat?

I think you should replace thermostat (coils on thermostat should be placed toward engine block) Also you may want to check wire connection on temp sensor and fan fuse/relay. Also check if fans come on when you turn on A/C.

Check thermostat first, start the engine and touch the radiator hoses, if one of the hoses is not hot, replace thermostat.

I changed the stat and still running hot and no heat. Fan blows cool air. What should be my next move? How can i tell if the water pump is shot?
    thanks for the help!

    Clean radiator, it possibly clogged.

Did you check radiator fan, and with engine cold, remove radiator cap, rev engine and see if coolant moves, it is also possible there is an air lock behind thermostat, so while checking with tad cap off continue to rev and top off if bubbles are expelled.
