The Jeep is equipped with a multitude of sensors that monitor the emissions system and engine performance. If one of these sensors returns a value that is out of the programmed range of expected values, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp) will illuminate. If the MIL stays on steadily, it indicates a relatively minor malfunction and the vehicle can be driven to a place of repair. If the MIL illuminates and flashes, this indicates something more serious and the vehicle should not be driven until repairs are made. Your vehicle may seem to run OK with the MIL illuminated, but there is something wrong that needs attention.

On a fair number of Chrysler vehicles you are able to pull up stored codes by cycling the key 3 times. Starting in the off position, turn the key to "ON" (position before start), then off, on, off, on, finally leaving the key in the on position. Most of the time the stored code/codes are displayed on the odometer screen. Get the code and search.
