1989 Mazda MX-6 DX 4Cyl2.2L - Engine
Is this engine an interference or non-interference type?
Timing belt broke. Replacement instructions seem to indicate it is a non-interference type.

Sorry, this is an interference engine design. The engine damage may however be minimal, not to the point of requiring a rebuild or major engine work.

Then, is it worth putting a new belt on and firing it up? Or should I pull the head and go from there?

Pull the head and go from there, the pistons could been damaged as well as the valves.
