1. Using a scan tool, monitor the intake valve timing control solenoid command (INT/V SOL (B1) vs. actual intake valve timing degrees (INT/V TIM (B1). When the solenoid duty % increases, so should the intake valve timing.
2. If the timing control seems to be working properly, check the camshaft timing for possibly being off a tooth or more.
3. Verify that it has the correct oil in the engine.
