1997 Nissan Altima GXE 4Cyl2.4L - Engine

some days it drives good, but then out of the blue,it starts skipping shaking,want idle, and a wierd fumey smell when it

engine light comes on, but then after a while goes out. 217000 miles, both warm and cold,stopped want idle right,tempature gage vibrates. cant figure it out, dont no if its catalytic converter,sensor, fuel pump, im lost. thanks jw

  There is a flow to diagnostics. The very first step is to buy or borrow a $20 code reader and plug it into the diagnostic connector and read the codes that are stored. There is no other first thing except that. Read the codes and update this post with the code numbers and then we can help.
