Jimm 7/31/2011Typically, this means the struts are replaceable - usually with a cartridge insert. The strut tube stays and the shock absorber on the interior is replaced. This is the case with your vehicle - the front struts have replaceable cartridge inserts, the rear has shock absorbers. Try the many on-line auto parts sources, www.RockAuto.com or www.autopartswarehouse.com. They (Rock Auto) list the front strut cartridge from around $24.00 each and the rear shcok from around $17.00 each.
To replace the front strut cartridges;
1 - Remove the strut / spring as an assembly.
2 - use a spring compressor (CAREFULLY) to compress the spring
3 - Remove the big nut at the top of the assembly
4 - Replace strut insert
5 - Reinstallation is the reverse of removal.
Scribe, paint, scratch the bottom of the shock assembly where it bolts. You want to keep your front wheel alignment as close as possible. The assembly should have a couple ounces of oil in the tube. Plan to replace or salvage, filter and reuse. You do need a spring compressor to disassemble the strut assembly.
