2005 BMW Z4 3.0i 6Cyl3.0L - Body & Interior
What is causing my electrical problems?
Interior lights work intermittently. Sometimes the key removal sound continues after key removed from ignition. Sometimes interior lights stay on after key removed from ignition. Sometimes slow to start. Blinkers work, but with no sound sometimes. Sometimes the top will not retract. Sometimes the car functions perfectly. The other day, it would not start at all. I had it towed to a shop and they replaced the ignition switch for $400 and the car now starts, but all of the electrical problems are still present. They tell me they think it's the instrument cluster/motherboard and that it will need to go to a dealer to get these replaced. Any advice would be welcome. All of these problems occurred at once and seemed to have all the hallmarks of a faulty ignition switch. Is it likely, that both the ignition switch and the instrument cluster failed at the same time? What is the cost to replace the cluster/motherboard? Can this cause the car to not start again?
