could the cars factory security system keep it from starting?

turn key and car wont start but the interior and exterior lights work. I only have the ignition key and no door or trunk key...just fyi Was told it is probably the security chip in key is bad and there was a simple process to deactivating the system. Can I do this and how?

  If the security light is on or blinking during the attempt to start the engine then the cause is likely a bad lock cylinder. The ignition lock cylinder which reads the resistor pellet value likely has a broken wire. It is not likely the key unless the resistor pellet is missing.
