1984 Mercedes Benz 300D Base 5Cyl3.0L - Engine
Car starts but won't turn off
This started last week - daughter took it to the mall and it wouldn't turn off. Had her bring it straight home. Anyone know what might cause this?

Whenever I work on the fuel filter, I invariably knock off a vacuum line near the firewall. Each time I do it, the car won't shut off. It's easy to get to. Almost definitely a vacuum problem.

It is possible that your ignition switch and/or ignition module is defective.

I know this problem well, it means you have a significant vacuum leak somewhere. If you open the hood, there should be a shuf off switch that you can push and hold for a moment; it is located near the valve cover and air cleaner.

your car has a vacuum leak somewhere, probably at the hose on the ignition switch.

try locking your doors when you want to shut the car off. just try it. door locks are vacuum controlled and they usually do the trick.
