2002 Ford Explorer XLT 6Cyl4.0L - Engine
Car just started running rough like bad gas so drove down road and it completely died.
The check engine light has periodically blinked and it was low on oil so added oil to see if it was needed and Finally got it to start again but wont idle and it has a rattle in engine it has 120000 plus miles on engine.

Need more information - how low on oil was the engine? How much engine oil was added?

Maybe not good - was there any engine noise or rattle heard previously? It is possible the low engine oil level has caused premature wear on the engine main or rod bearings. If this is the case, then you may either rebuild the existing engine or install a rebuilt engine. Oil starvation - even momentarily during operation - is a quick method to harm or kill an engine.

Before jumping to these conclusions - go and obtain a second opinion and assessment from a trusted repair shop in your area.
