  I assumed, it must be the catalytic converter. Local auto parts stores such as Autozone ( not in California ) or Advance Auto parts will scan your car and retrieve any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) stored in the powertrain control module. Post the DTC's in the answer question section and the AutoMD will advise for the repair.
